http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-11499038 Officers from 13 forces will be on hand to maintain order at two protests in Leicestershire - the county's largest police operation in 25 years. The English Defence League (EDL) is due to hold a demonstration in Leicester on Saturday, while Unite Against Fascism (UAF) will stage a counter-protest. A large part of the city centre will be closed to traffic throughout the day. The groups are banned from marching but will be escorted to Humberstone Gate East to hold static protests. A Shepherd's Bush man whose gang stole 800 mobile phones in high street robberies across the UK has been jailed for four and a half years. Benjamin Rank, 27, of Steventon Road, was one of six men sentenced this week after targeting 10 phone stores in London, Surrey and West Yorkshire and a clothing store in Uxbridge between July and December last year. Members of the gang would enter the shops posing as customers, then threaten and assault staff before raiding stock rooms of the most valuable goods and leaving in waiting getaway cars. They netted more than £130,000 worth of stolen goods, which they would immediately move to an independent mobile phone sh…

http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1346157_exclusive_police_probe_after_officer_is_filmed_punching_protester_at_edl_rally I have watched this video clip-clearly it was mayhem and officers were under attack. I really do wonder if UAF and EDL are not simply as bad as each other. Both groups seem to have a fair number of people just looking for a punch-up.:D

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/uk-england-lancashire-11608639 Lancashire have suggested that their entire contingent of PCSO's are at risk following the CSR on Wednesday. I suspect that this is just the start of major changes throughout the country, and the story comes as no real surprise. What news from other parts of the UK?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-11598947 Council and police officers who spent two hours collecting abandoned shopping trolleys in Kent have been criticised. The clear-up in Sheerness on Thursday saw 43 Tesco trolleys collected by two police constables, two council street wardens, and a Tesco staff member. Gordon Henderson MP said the council should have made Tesco do the work. Swale council said the work fell under its safety remit. Tesco said it needed council assistance to retrieve trolleys from some gated areas. Ch Supt Matthew Nix also defended the move and said members of the public had raised concerns about…

"Facebook users can have an unlikely addition to their friends list after Corsham police set up their own profile. The officers are hoping the Facebook page will give residents another way of getting in touch with their team. They are also using the page to dispense general information. PCSO Charles Campbell, who had the idea for the profile, said: “Being a rural police station, we want to use any method we can to keep contact with the public. “It can be difficult to get in touch with some of the more remote areas. “We run police points for these areas but people can’t always get to them because they might be working, so this is just another way for them to c…

A rape allegation against a known sex offender was not investigated properly in a case "so inept that it borders on the unbelievable", the police watchdog said today. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) found individual and organisational failures at Dyfed-Powys Police. Four detectives failed to make sure the investigation progressed properly after a woman said she was raped as a child. The watchdog said the force and the officers involved did not provide the quality of service someone making a rape allegation should expect. The woman reported the rape in April 2005, alleging it happened 10 years earlier when she was a child. She appeared as a witn…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11592467 An anti-war campaigner who was hurt when officers forcibly removed a rubber Gordon Brown mask from her face has received an apology and compensation. Audrey White, 59, from Merseyside, was protesting in Manchester in 2008 when she said she was hauled to the ground, injuring her back and neck. Her initial complaint was rejected by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) but it has now accepted an error. In a statement, the force said it wanted to sincerely apologise. Mrs White, a founding member of Merseyside's Stop the War Coalition, had previously liaised with senior police officers and organise…

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/newshome/Dangerous-driver-could-have-killed.6584039.jp A man drove 'like a lunatic' and then laughed at a police officer who tried to stop him because he thought it was funny, a court heard. Bricklayer Justin Pateman had only been out of prison for two weeks when an off-duty police officer saw him driving recklessly. Pateman drove up behind the officer then overtook him at more than 70mph, Portsmouth Crown Court heard. He tried to overtake two more cars on a bend …
