Luck escape for all involved. The chopper involved is not G-PSNI, but a leased chopper. Four people have been injured after a police helicopter crashed in the Mourne mountains. The accident happened close to the scene of last weekend's fatal helicopter crash. The helicopter was in the area on Thursday as part of a police clearance operation in connection with Saturday's crash. It had just taken off when it overturned. Emergency services are at the scene in Hilltown, County Down. John McPolin from the NI Ambulance service said that none of those on board suffered life threatening injuries. He confirmed there were two of those on board were "walking wounded" and tw…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11616870 British Transport Police is calling for tougher powers to tackle the growing problem of metal theft. There have been more than 5,000 such thefts from the railways and the gas and electricity networks this year. Officers have told BBC News the rising price for refined copper means they expect the problem to get worse. They want the power to shut suspected rogue scrap metal dealers on the spot in the same way they can close pubs, with the decision reviewed by a court. The last two years have seen the price of refined copper more than double. At the end of 2008 it was selling it at a low of less than £2,000 a tonne, but by earl…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11628372 A stringent project designed to curb alcohol-related crime in the US state of South Dakota is to be used as a model for a project in the UK. The "24/7 Sobriety Program" forces problem drinkers to take - and pay for - twice-daily breath tests to prove they are sober. The tests can be used as a sentence after a conviction, or a condition of bail, after an alcohol-related crime. They can also be imposed upon parents as a condition of having children returned to a household in families with a history of alcohol abuse. Failure of a test usually means an instant short spell in jail, and it is hoped that such a dramatic se…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11622218 UK security chiefs have ordered an acceleration in police training to prepare for any future "Mumbai-style" gun attack in a public place. A series of counter-terrorism exercises are being held with police marksmen training alongside units of the SAS. Police armed response units are also being given more powerful weapons. Recent intelligence had revealed the early stages of an al-Qaeda plot to carry out co-ordinated attacks in the UK, France and Germany. They were planning to copy the 2008 attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai, where 10 gunmen went on a three-day rampage, killing 166 people and injuring…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11622218 UK security chiefs have ordered an acceleration in police training to prepare for any future "Mumbai-style" gun attack in a public place. Before the guns come the Police, and with 25% less Police we will have a problem. If anything like this were to happen god forbid, will they`re be enough IPCC to investigate afterwards?

A quick thinking resident was honoured by police this week in a ceremony usually reserved for officers and staff. Patrick Legros foiled a burglary in Cambridge Gardens, North Kensington late last year, when he confronted two men trying to climb through the window of a ground floor flat. They ran off, but he gave chase, got his wife to call the police, then helped officers locate the men, who could then be arrested by police. Superintendent Jane Johnson handed Mr Legros a commendation at the ceremony at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on Friday (15) and said: "Commendations for members of the public who assist police and the community in their actions are always p…
