http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11643808 It's a career that took a fresh faced 17-year-old cadet with Thames Valley Police in 1975 to the country's elite anti-terrorism branch. Along the way he has protected the royals and senior MPs, and worked on the drugs squad. Now 52-year-old Detective Constable Harinder Singh Sangha is hanging up his truncheon after 35 years service. "I have had a fantastic career. There's been a few lows. But lots of highs," he said. It's rare for anti-terrorist officers to give interviews. But Asian colleagues and the Metropolitan Police Sikh Association (MPSA) encouraged Det Cons Sangha to go public because of his ground-breaking care…

Mounted police and sniffer dogs have started patrolling a troubled Fulham estate in a radical move aimed at stopping drug dealing, knife crime and antisocial behaviour. The Clem Attlee Estate, off Lillie Road, has been plagued with problems all year, with a spate of stabbings and open drug dealing pushing law abiding residents to the brink. They aired their concerns to the safer neighbourhood team, which responded by organising daily patrols by officers and horses based at Hammersmith Police Station.Residents have welcomed the moves and have already noticed a difference since the initiative was brought in last week. One mother said: "It's definitely reass…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-11716989 Members of the Army have joined police officers on the beat in Maidstone in a bid to deter soldiers from misbehaving in the town. The Military Provost Staff from the 36 Engineer Regiment will join officers in the run up to Christmas. Kent Police said they would not be dealing with civilians but would deal with soldiers on nights out from the town's Invicta Park Barracks. The Army said it would help save police time and preserve its reputation. Capt Jamie Walker said: "We approached the police with the initiative following a number of our soldiers returning from operations and going into town to celebrate coming home…

Three men have been jailed for a total of seven-and-a-half years for their part in running a cannabis factory, involving drugs worth £14m. Twenty Chinese and Vietnamese people have already been convicted and sentenced to jail. It brings to the end a major investigation, code-named Operation Jade. North Wales Police found what is thought to be the largest cannabis farm in the UK - 11,276 plants in Bangor. The haul was found in a converted building supplies store. The hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court dealt with a property agent and builders involved in the premises used for cultivating the drugs. Nicholas Pritchard from Y Felinheli, Gwynedd, a letting agent, who foun…

A frustrated judge has slammed the borough's drugs team for failing to deal quickly enough with addicts and branded Hammersmith and Fulham the 'crack capital of England'. Judge Justin Phillips threatened to retire from the bench in protest after being told in court that two heroin users in the dock could not have methadone prescriptions signed off for several days. Both of the drug users had shoplifted perfume at the Westfield shopping centre to raise cash to buy drugs illegally, and Judge Phillips said the ongoing lack of treatment would mean the pair would be forced to go out and reoffend. In an extraordinary tirade at West London Magistrates' Court on…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-11724388 Fans caught up in trouble at a football match in Plymouth have blamed a "low-key" approach by police. At least 20 people were arrested on Tuesday evening at the first Devon derby between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City for more than eight years. Violence broke out in the stands during the game, a steward was injured and visiting fans were attacked as they tried to leave Home Park stadium. Devon and Cornwall Police said their resources were used "to good effect". Radio Devon sports presenter James Vickery, who was at the match as a spectator, said the level of violence was "absolutely terrifying". He was told by a s…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-11707903 Rape charities have reacted angrily after a woman who accused her husband of rape was jailed for falsely dropping the charges. Why so angry? Wasting Police time, should do some jail term for that. She near on put her husband in jail, i see no reason she should not feel what he was about to go through. Daft woman.
