Taken from The Guardian http://www.guardian....-website-closed Also on The Register http://www.theregist...olice_ban_blog/ I could understand the police getting some sort of injunction to get the page removed (if it actually broke the law) but to get the whole site removed over one page is over the top. I expect this is because the police have never been happy with Fitwatch. What next, arrest a solicitor for advising his client to stay silent as the police probably don't have enough evidence for a conviction?

I agree it was, so why did they allow her on holiday? Obviously not that appalling

In my mind this statement does not auger well for future demos. Does he mean by putting more assets in place so the police can respond more appropriately that there will be a heavier reaction? Given that the attached article already highlights a contradiction of views eg the need for the police to protect themselves and property, to the BBC reporting horseback charges by the police and, police saying that when they used kettling, minors and others were allowed out and this being contradicted by witness accounts, highlights in my mind the need for independent views, be they news journalists, cctv, photographers etc to capture the events at forthcoming demos. Whilst th…

The man who murdered headmaster Philip Lawrence in west London has been recalled to prison after being arrested for an alleged robbery. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-11835683 This man may still be innocent, but i still feel he is a waste of UK oxygen.

According to the Daily Mail (yes, i know..) WYP are going to be patrolling alongside Street Wardens paid for by McDonalds. Is this a shocking vision of a future where the thin blue line is so thin we need McDonalds to help us fight crime, or is the tale a little twisted? I would be interested to know the truth if anyone has a more balanced version than the Fail. I cant quite tell if they are McDonalds staff in a Street Warden uniform, or normal Street Wardens who are just paid for by Maccy D's. Burger Bobbies

This sounds quite serious, but a great result for Derbyshire Constabulary. A shame 12 of the girls didn't get convictions specifically. Source: BBC News

The video accompanying this BBC story on the Irish bailout makes for interesting watching. A smallish group of protestors and press are outside the gates of the Irish parliment when a lone police motorcyclist pulls up. The gates open and the crowd surges in, along with the officer who is almost knocked off his feet. He races to the front and heads the crowd off, alone, with just an asp. Only at the end of the video does anyone else (a private security guard?) appear. Courageous stuff!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-11822551 A man with an imitation gun kidnapped a motorist in Great Yarmouth in an elaborate attempt to get himself shot by armed police, a court has heard. Peter Watts, 19, admitted kidnapping Joseph Smith and possessing an imitation firearm. Norwich Crown Court heard Watts went on a "downward spiral" after the death of his father and on 13 August 2010 attempted to get police to shoot him. He was sentenced to two years in a young offenders' institution. Christopher Youell, prosecuting, said Watts stopped Mr Smith in his car by waving a BB gun. He told him to drive to Salisbury Road, Great Yarmouth, where he ordered Mr Smi…

A police officer was arrested by her colleagues when they raided the house of a suspected drug-dealer in Oldham. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) raided the house on 12 November and found cocaine, cash and Pc Leanne Murphy. She was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to supply, bailed until 5 January and put on restricted duties. She is expected to be investigated by GMP's Professional Standards Branch and could face disciplinary action. The 26-year-old officer was off-duty at the time. She was one of four people arrested at the house, which is not her home address and was searched on warrant. A police spokesman said: "Greater Manchester Police can…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11815270 A 10-year-old boy from Darlington has been praised by police for snapping a thief and posting his picture on the social networking site Twitter. Alex Wilson, from Darlington, was in a car with his dad Dylan when he spotted the bike-riding thief snatching a phone from a pedestrian and took a picture. His snap later helped Durham Police catch Craig Royal who admitted theft. Durham Police said Alex showed "spirit" but urged witnesses to bring evidence to them before going "public". Alex was in the car with his father in the town's Yarm Road when he spotted the theft and took the picture. He then got his father to pull over …

Woman who accused husband of rape jailed for "falsely retracting" the claims A woman who claims she was repeatedly raped by her husband has been jailed for eight months for "falsely retracting" the allegations. By Laura Donnelly Published: 9:46AM GMT 07 Nov 2010 A statue representing the scales of justice is seen on the roof of the Old Bailey courts in central London Campaigners against violence said the decision sent out a "chilling message" to rape victims and ignored the pressures placed on abused women by the perpetrators of such crimes.
