Gary John Leslie GrievesConstablePolice Service of Northern IrelandDied 14 August 2010, aged 46 Died in a road traffic collision between a car and his motorcycle at Portglenone while travelling home after completing duty at a major public order event. Gary was appointed in 1997 after 13 years service in the Royal Navy, he served in Strabane and Belfast before joining the Tactical Support Group at Portglenone in 2010. He is survived by his partner, his son aged 13, two daughters aged 3 years and 6 months, his parents and two brothers.

John Mantle Gilbert Detective Sergeant Metropolitan Police Died 9 August 2009, aged 58 Whilst he was diving with the Metropolitan Police Sub-Aqua Club off the Sussex coast, a colleague got into difficulties; Sergeant Gilbert, an experienced diver, remained with him, sharing his air and assisting him to the surface but as a result John himself suffered decompression sickness and died the following day. John joined in 1980, and worked with the Edgeware Child Abuse Investigation Team. He was survived by his wife and his adult son and daughter.

Michael James Johnson Police Constable Wiltshire Police Died 3 August 2009, aged 46 When reporting for duty at Westbury Police Station, after jogging to work from his home, he collapsed in the station and despite attempts to resuscitate him he died soon afterwards from heart failure. Mike was appointed in 1987 and worked at Westbury as a Neighbourhood Beat Manager; he had previous service as a Firearms Officer and had been commended for bravery. He is survived by his daughter aged 18 and son 13, his fiancée and her three daughters aged 20, 16 and 11; his parents and a brother and sister.

Ian Dibell GMPolice ConstableEssex PoliceDied 9th July 2012, aged 41 Whilst off duty in Clacton-on-Sea he had cause to intervene in an incident close to his home. Protecting the public from an armed male he sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Posthumously awarded the George Medal for Gallantry.

David Alan Heptinstall Detective Sergeant West Yorkshire Police Died 30 June 2008, aged 41 While travelling to report for duty at Wakefield in the early morning his car left the carriageway and collided with the central reservation on the Wrenthorpe Bypass when he collapsed and died having suffered a heart attack. David was appointed in 1990, serving in Huddersfield and Wakefield before joining the Crime Division where he was recently commended for his work. He is survived by his wife, son aged 18 and daughter aged 16 years.

Phillip Edward Pratt Police Constable Kent Police Died 14 June 2009, aged 26 Fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle whilst setting up diversions to protect the scene of an earlier road traffic accident during the early morning on the A249 dual carriageway near Sittingbourne. Phillip joined Kent Police in January 2005, after previous service in force communications and as a special constable; he was a response officer stationed at Sittingbourne. He is survived by his parents and his sister and his fiancée and her two sons aged 14 and 10 years.

Ian James TerryPolice ConstableGreater Manchester Police Died 9 June 2008, aged 32 Fatally wounded when he was struck in the chest by a single shot, discharged from a shotgun carried by a colleague, during a firearms training exercise in a disused factory in Newton Heath, North Manchester. Ian was from Burnley, he joined Greater Manchester Police in 1997 and served on Rochdale Division before joining the Firearms Unit in 2002 where he was an extremely experienced and highly qualified firearms officer. He is survived by his wife, their daughter aged 4 and son aged 3 years, his parents and his brother, also a serving police officer.

Gareth Gallagher Constable Police Service of Northern Ireland Died 17 May 2010, aged 22 Died after his car was involved in a road traffic accident late on the previous evening near Ballymagorry whilst travelling to report for duty at Strabane. Gareth was appointed in November 2007 and served at Strabane in Co. Tyrone. He is survived by his parents, sister and girlfriend.

Mark Murtagh Police Constable Police Service of Scotland Died 16th May 2014 On the morning of Friday 16th May 2014 Mark was travelling into work to commence duty at Galashiels Police Office when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a bus. He is survived by his wife and family.

Scott Eastwood-SmithPolice Constable Metropolitan PoliceDied 14 May 2011, aged 29 Fatally injured when his motorcycle was in collision with a car at Twickenham, whilst travelling to report for night duty at Chiswick. Scott, who originated from Bradford, had two years police service and was based at Chiswick Police Station as a patrol and response team officer. He is survived by his parents and two younger sisters.

Richard Gray Police Constable West Mercia Police Died 6 May 2007, aged 43 After unarmed officers, attending an early morning disturbance at a house in Shrewsbury, were held at gunpoint, he arrived at the scene with an armed response unit; as he and a colleague went to the back of the house he was confronted by the gunman and he was shot in the head with a rifle and killed. The gunman was found shot dead nearby; an inquest returned verdicts that PC Gray was unlawfully killed and his assailant committed suicide. Ian Paul SwadlingPolice ConstableMetropolitan PoliceDied 4 May 2011, aged 34 Died when he came off his motorcycle which crashed near near Hemel Hempstead whilst travelling home in the late evening from duty at Harrow. Ian joined the police in 1997 and was working on the Harrow Weald Safer Neighbourhoods Team. He is survived by his wife, son aged 3 years and their daughter born 6 weeks later, his parents and sister.

Ian HarmanPolice SergeantMetropolitan PoliceDied 3rd May 2013, aged 47 Whilst on duty at his desk at the Merton Park and Cannon Hill Safer Neighbourhoods Team base, in Aberconway Road, Morden he suffered a fatal heart attack. Ian had served in the Metropolitan Police for the last 24 years and had been based in Merton for the last five. He is survived by his wife and their two sons.

Douglas Wiggins Police Constable Police Scotland Died 3rd May 2016, aged 55 During the final hour of Monday 2nd May 2016 Dougie was on duty en route to an emergency call at the Travel Inn, Edinburgh Road in Bellshill when he collapsed. He was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital but sadly died in the early hours of Tuesday 3rd May 2016. Dougie joined Strathclyde Police in 2008 as a Special Constable, in 2010 he joined full time and served in Lanarkshire Division.

Preston Gurr Inspector Metropolitan Police Died 28th April 2012, aged 53 Having finished duty after a night shift he travelled home on his motorcycle from Westminster Borough. Just before 7.30am he was involved in a collision with a car at a junction in Mitcham. He sustained fatal injuries when he came off of his motorcycle. He is survived by his wife and their two children.
