If you follow @wiltshirepolice then you'll find it's Twitter week. Wiltshire Police is launching ‘Tweet Week’ in order to further connect with the public in readiness for one of the busiest summers in its history. People will be able to use Twitter to follow the activities of staff and officers from across the force next week (w/c Monday 14th May 2012) as they use the social media site to take people through their day. ‘Tweet Week’ is aiming to highlight how Wiltshire Police is using Twitter as an effective tool to communicate with the public and how it will be an important mechanism of keeping people informed during what will be one of the busiest summers in British…

Hi there, Have recently applied for civvy role in WiltsPol. Just wondered if someone could give me the low down how the Control Rooms and Contact Centres and other comms departments work together. Also, which departments take on which roles? Feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you wish. Throughout all background reading so far, this has never been made clear. Thanks in advance, Sam

Last year we held a very successful event at a local Army base to test our readiness for the Olympic back-fill in 2012. We have just been given permission to run a second event (probably in early May) to build on last year's success and allow those officers who have joined recently to share the experience. Further details will be posted here and officers will be offered the chance to take part through email invitation. The content will not be the same as last year and will also be focused on providing opportunities to demonstrate competency in several SOLAP PAC areas. The likely date for the exercise is May 12th and 13th (officers will be able to attend one of the days…

The Chief Constable's parade for 2012 will be held at St John's School, Marlborough on Saturday 10th November 2012 starting at 10.00 am It is expected that the attendance at this year's event will be higher than usual due to the presentation of the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal (for qualifying officers) and the larger number of Independent Patrol certificates likely to be awarded. If you wish to attend, please advise S/Supt Richard Bellamy with details of any requested guest spaces. The details of the event can be found at the Wiltshire Special Constabulary facebook site. In light of the greater than expected number of attendees officers are encouraged to book a place e…

Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on Tutors or PAC Assesors. No real question, just blurt out your thoughts on which is better and why. I know ET has favoured not having tutors, and some say ES and EP are going that way too. What do people think of it? Also in regards to SOLAP?

At last evening's Special Constabulary Management Board (SCMB), Temporary DCC VEALE agreed to provide specific recognition to specials providing support to the force over the Olympic and Diamond Jubilee periods. The exact criteria is being agreed at present, however, the five officers providing the greatest number of operational hours to the force over this period will receive Chief Officer certificates of merit. There will also be an award (yet to be agreed) for the officer providing the greatest number of operational hours over this period. Further details will follow on this forum and other comms channels in due course.

Following the recent vision workshop a request was made by a number of special constables for a twitter page. This has just been set up under Wiltshire Specials (@Wilts_Specials) The intention is to use this as another means of keeping our force specials up to date, improving the channels of communication and promoting the specials to a wider audience. We will continue to use forums such as this too. Content/updates should start within 24 hours - feel free to follow if you are a user of twitter.

The force is looking at the number of probationary officers we have within the specials at present. Consideration is being given to stregthening the approach to officers who fall into the 'professional probationer' category - roughly still a probationer after 2 years + This will form part of the new Operating Model for specials and whatever is decided is likely to come into force in the early part of the New Year. Any thoughts on the questions above ...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-11664470 The unit in charge of speed cameras and speed awareness courses in Wiltshire and Swindon has closed, with the loss of 40 jobs. The safety camera partnership shut on Friday due to a cut in funding. Some 65,000 drivers have been on speed awareness courses since 2006 in Swindon, Salisbury and Trowbridge. Swindon's council, a member of the partnership, was the first English local authority to abandon fixed speed cameras one year ago. The partnership was made up of Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council. Wiltshire Police said it would continue to enforce speed limits after the cameras were …

Sorry to sound a bit of a p'd off note, but I'm truly fed up with one of my colleagues who won't stop moaning about the specials in force (can't do this, won't sort out that etc etc) That's fair enough - we all like a good moan, but she refuses point blank to engage with the specials supervisors saying she'll only deal with the regulars because she sees herself as a volunteer regular officer. I have to vent my spleen... Why are the majority working within the force rules when some individuals seem to think they're better than the rest of us mere mortals? Why don't the specials supervisors do something to bring people like this into line? It's not fair on the rest of …
