I was wondering whether Wiltshire Police do a fitness test for Specials? I thought all forces did one, but it says nothing on their website or any other website. On my first letter from them it says 'fitness/medical' will need to be taken. Is that the fitness test? and Does it include all the usual stuff: bleep, push, pull, grip?

C&P from the email in case you havent seen it: Working with our regular colleagues at Swindon (along with colleagues at Fire and Rescue) the Specials in Swindon would like to extend an offer to join them as part of a team in January’s sponsored Charity Walk in aid of Downs Syndrome. – A great way to walk off the Christmas excesses. This will take place on Sunday 9th January 2010 starting at 2200hrs (yes 10pm) and is a 13 mile walk across the downs and Ridgeway. This offer is open to any special constable, including those in training at HQ. We would particularly like some teams/colleagues from County …

Police Officer Rachel Webb of the Wiltshire police force is a credit to the police service. It take guts to be a whistle-blower. Her brave action has, I am sure, gone some way to neutralise the damage to police reputations that the brutish criminal action of Sergeant Mark Andrews has done. Listen to me ladies and gentlemen of the police service if you want the support of every sector of the public – be like her.

To give you some idea of the training involved, here is an approximate schedule for Special intakes as of May 2013. Note that training occurs usually on Wednesday evenings for the theoretical, and Satudays for the practical sessions in general. In reality, this may take a bit longer as courses are not held over some weeks, such as Christmas, Easter and periods of holiday absence. Failure to make any of the sessions will mean you'll have to do them at a later time, and may risk that you have to fall back to the next intake, so it's worthwhile trying all you can to do to attend, given the obvious investment being made in new recruits by the force! Week 1 Wednesday (3 h…

Hi, just to say that I am currently the mini-mod for this area. It's a pretty quiet area in general, but I and some of the other local contributors regularly check it and we normally respond fairly quickly to any questions etc. posted here. Please do introduce yourself in the pinned Icebreaker thread if you are interested in Wiltshire and its Policing.

Hi, for those interested in joining Wiltshire Police as a Special, the following is the process that you need to follow: Initial Contact Consult the Wiltshire Police Website for Special Constable Recruitment, http://www.wiltshire...cial-constable. Application Pack Request an application pack, fill it in and submit (note that the majority of applicants are rejected at this stage, so it is worthwhile spending a significant effort at this stage to get it right). You are highly recommended to make a photocopy of what you submit for your own future reference! PIRT If you pass this paper-sift stage, you will be invited to sit the PIRT. This is the standard nation…
