Devizes dog bit me, says police election candidate 9:30am Thursday 25th October 2012 A special constable who wants to be Wiltshire’s first police and crime commissioner shopped an elderly dog owner to the force when her Jack Russell bit him while he was out delivering election leaflets. Colin Skelton, from Salisbury, who is an independent candidate, was apparently bitten when he called at the home of pensioner Liz Chandler in Roundway Park, Devizes. Mr Skelton said: “It’s the second worst pain I have ever felt after being accidentally sprayed with PAVA spray (used by police to incapacitate) a few years ago. “I was looked after by a neighbour who took me to A&E at…

Hi there, I noticed on the forces official website there was no definitive answer to whether they were open or not, so I registered an interest and the next thing I know I have an application pack sent through the post? Seeing as I have nothing to loose I am in the process of filling it out but was just wondering if anyone knew what the current status of recruitment was?

The previous Chief Constable used to have a saying that he had a magic pen which "would" make things happen within the force. This was used as a method to promote change and drive continual improvement. As a thought provoking debate and discussion, If you could change or improve one thing within the Special Constabulary in Wiltshire, what would this be and why ? Equally if you feel there are areas in which the Special Constabulary excel then what are those areas ? A lot has changed over the last 4 years and we have grown significantly in size. Our voluntary organisation looks and feels very different to what it was in 2008 so it would be good to get your views & pe…

Specials Personal Agreements update
by Vulcan +- 9 replies
- 1.5k views
The long awaited personal agreements for specials have now been agreed and will start to be issued over the next 7-10 days. Your specials sergeants will go through the document individually to cover the content and explain the purpose of the document. There shouldn't be anything in there which officers will find contentious, it brings together current Home Office, Force and local policy and expectations for the role. Specials Supervisors in the north of the county will be starting to see their teams over the coming week with central and southern areas following shortly afterwards

It's not up on iPlayer yet, but Crimewatch Roadshow is with Wiltshire Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Today's sees Rav Wilding in Cardiff and Dave Guest in Wiltshire "In this programme, Wiltshire police search for the men who posed as police officers, persuading an elderley man to let them into his house so they could steal his pension money. The team visits the town of Salisbury <<Ed: - actually a city>> where the ladies of Streetwatch help keep the residents safe. And local reporter Alex Lovell joins the special constables on their first big policing operation <<???>>, as they manage the Stonehenge crowds for the summer solstice" …

The current round of promotions to Specials Inspector concluded yesterday with the boards for candidates who passed the paper sift. Details will be announced shortly as soon as the candidates have been advised of the outcome. Sorry to be contentious - but I sometimes wonder why some of my colleagues joined the specials! I went in to the station today to be met by a colleague who had just failed their paper sift for the regulars (Wilts were recruiting for 15-18 places). This officer was handing back their kit and materials. They told me "If I'm not good enough to get paid to do this I'm not being a special - wasn't ever interested in working as a special I just wanted to be a regular and this was a means to an end." A second colleague (rarely seen - Elvis is spotted more often) admitted to only being in the specials to make friends and hopefully one in particular ... they weren't really inter…

by plainmad +- 5 replies

Hiya, I've been given a warning that I need to attend court (will be my first time ) so obviously I need to get time off work. Now as far as I understand it, work has to give me the time off but don't have to pay me. I claim back my loss of earning from the police. I'm just wondering what the process is regarding this in Wiltshire. Is there any particluar form I need to fill in? Thanks Handscombmp

SOLAp Progress 1 2
by Inglorious- 20 replies

Well this I hope will be a point of discussion! Moving about the county we seem to have a vast array of officers at different levels in the SOLAP, unfortunately it seems to me that this is not related to length of service, but perhaps the will and drive to complete it. I have come across officers with only a few months service that have 10 PAC's signed off yet some with 2 or 3 years that have just 2? It would be useful in this open yet anonymous forum to hear why people are not progressing their SOLAP's on conversely why some officers are doing very well. I have a few ideas why some are struggling, but I want to see if we have any replied posted before I reveal my h…
