Hi everyone, I've been advised to post a message in here so I can obtain some info about your jobs as Specials. Basically I am applying to join the South Yorkshire force and would like to know what areas of the system you guys work in, be it local patrols, vans, traffic, etc. I will be coming across for the TA as I am looking to do something different in my spare time. My second question: How was your assessments and training? I am interested in knowing if there are any similarities to what I already do. Hope to receive some good info, if you can help. Thanks, Leo

Hello, My housemate was recently home during the day when a PCSO came a-knocking handing out flyers about home security. He has just told me that the PCSO asked him for his name and email address as part of the conversation. Have you any idea why he wants that information? My housemate wasn't too keen on providing that information and also wasn't 100% happy as he didn't display nor provide any ID. The information is all legit hence I'm convinced it was a real officer that came knocking. Any thoughts? Chris

As the title suggests - there are often at least two or three vehicles (marked cars and vans) parked down at the station... Why is this? Is this not a bad use of resources as they rarely seem to move?! Just interested. Chris

A senior intelligence analyst with degrees and post-grad degrees in criminology and statistical analysis is fired from West Yorkshire Police for providing his assessment of the terror threat to the UK. He concluded with his 12 years of experience as a Police Intelligence Analyst for West Yorkshire Police that the official versions of the events of 7/7 and 9/11 did not hold water and there was a greater threat to the UK than Islamic terrorism. A detailed article can be found here: http://www.prisonpla...lag-terror.html And here: http://www.veteranst...-terror-threat/ I urge you to watch this interview with Tony Farrell, former Police Intelligence Analyst that can be…

Just heard on Hallam FM that the series is to follow RPU in South Yorkshire. I don't know if filming has started already, or it's finished, but I can't wait to see it. Maybe Ram1us (sp) can give us a heads up on this?

This isn't a discussion or speculation, can I just ask that anyone who is mod2 onwards make contact with their Special Sergeant or DDO if you haven't done so already to outline your availability. Kind Regard, A/DDO McFlurry

Hi, I have been following the threads on here for some time now so thought I would take the plunge and join in the chat. I am the Acting District Officer for Operational Support Services (OSS) and have the responsibility for officers based with the Roads Policing Group (RPG), the Road Crime Unit (RCU) and the stand alone Specials Support Group (SSG). I have noticed on a few threads some of you ask who SSG are and what they do, also what training they get along with RPG and RCU. Well, if you want to know let me know and I'll fill in the gaps.

I have seen a white Police car with no markings other than the word Police often patrolling around my neighbourhood. I am able to guess why it has no lights/ sirens but would actually like to hear from someone who knows exactly why? My question is only because I cannot see how it could be of any benefit as opposed to using a normal marked car that could also respond - would this not be a better use of resources? Especially as the car is usually double crewed. Anyone know the reasons without sharing intel? Chris

I was curious once I get to my MOD 2 will I be able to request a certain part of South Yorkshire in my case Barnsley or would I be sent where I was needed the most I am fine either way but just curious. Kind Regards

Hi Can your stab vest be worn over the top of the flourescent tabard because the klickfast radio clips on my tabard are awfully baggy and my radio swings about everywhere so would prefer to have everything in it's normal place on my vest and access to my pockets etc. I know you can wear the micro fleece underneath but what about the tabard.?
