Hi all. I was wondering what your opinions are of working in an area in which you live. I live in the centre of Edinburgh and am keen to join L&B Specials. There is a station near my home, which I would like to be stationed at since it will cover the city centre. Any advice on this, or is it best to try and go for an area away from where you live? I know as a reg you dont get stationed near your home, but as a special you get some say (correct me if I'm wrong) in where you are put - is it a good idea then to be close to home? Cheers.

Alrite guys, I was at my uniform fitting yesterday and they didnt mention anything about the boots. I know i have to buy them myself but i was just wondering do i buy them before i start @ Jackton or will they clear everything up on our first day of training? Cheers for everyones help, Peter.

Does anyone have any information on when the letters advising that you are in the September specials intake will be issued. My medical was initially on the 14 July 2008 but a group of us had to then go back on the 18 July because the nurse hadn't been booked to take the audio and lung capacity tests. She said everything looked fine and the results would be assessed the following Wednesday by another doc before the letters would be issued. Since then its gone very quiet. Anyone had any news yet?

hey guys i passed my final fitness test on thursday and have a few forms to fill in just got a couple of questions if any one can answer it for me there is things it asks me that i dont know like from and to. im taking it this is when i start tulliallan and not jacton? if so i dont know when that starts, will i just leave it blank? on the mandate for salary it askes fora reference number... again i dont have one will i just leave it blank? In the letter it asks for you to send these forms away with your acceptace letter and also asks me to provide my driving licence to jacton. would it be ok just to hand these forms in when i take my licence up on monday morning. an…

Hi, I might be asking the wrong people here, but most of you are pretty clued up on the whole recruitment process. I've passed my interview and now only have the medical to pass on the 10th which I should do, but when I was checking my calendar I've just realised that I may need days off during training. I'm going to Milan with my dad on the 14th of Sept for the Formula One that I booked last year as a christmas present AND on the 12th of October I'm going down to London for a medical with the Civil Aviation Authority. Do you know what the usual policy is with regards to days off in training OR who I could speak to about it? Scott

Hi Ive just had a call to ask me to attend a Home visit at Fettes.. I realise im going to get asked lots of questions on the force and am struggling to find any relevant information.. Can anyone tell me where I can get such information. Ive tried the L&B website.. But i cant find any current issues or force goals or whats happening in my area.. Please Help me.. Hi there! I'm off to college with the preparation for uniformed services course in August (I know, mind change again haha but I hear the course is awesome preparation) it includes the police so will be focusing on fitness, communication, academic, knowledge of the force etc and will be applying to the regulars in June of next year. I'm thinking about applying to the specials this year, if I do how long will the process take? If I was to leave in June of next year to apply to the regulars, would they be alright with that? Or do they still want a full year from you? Would they deny my regulars application based on my time as a special? Under the "year" and all. Also, last…

Hey people. I'm applying to become a Special and just have one or two questions. On the Tayside Police website, it says they are recruiting now. If I send an application form ASAP, whats the chances of me getting an interview before they stop recruiting? Also, what sort of questions do they ask during the interview? So I can prepare myself if I get one. Thanks!

Hi Everyone, Ive been doing some research on the Force in prep for my interview, and have come across a section on the Recruitment page of the Website which says that On completion of your training you will then be deployed within one of the newly established community policing teams. I have had a look through the website and I cant find anything on this. Does anyone have any information about the community policing teams? Thanks
