Over the last 6 months I have been warned for Mags court 3 times as the OIC for one case. On the first 2 occasions the defendant failed to show up and the case was adjourned. On the 3rd instance they failed to show and the court was heard in their absence. He was found guilty by 3 magistrates. He was then circulated for FTA and as I was the OIC I was told getting him in front of a court was my responsibility. A few weeks later and before I even got to the point in my work load where I spend the day bobbing around London looking for him he surrendered to a court. I have now been warned for the same case again. The reason? The defence doesn't think it was fair that the c…

All, Now we all know that sometimes orders are disobeyed for certain reasons. I was thinking about this the other day, can a supervisor lawfully order you to stop and search someone, or even S136 someone ? I stand to be corrected but the way I see it they can't and it's down to the constable to justify their use of powers?

As the title says really. Any advice for a plain clothes patrol? Also interested in what people like to wear and what equipment they take and where it's stored. Cheers Sloth

Hi all, I'm joining the specials, start training at the end of November. Just wondering what people think about getting the hepatitis B injection? I'm going to be looking at doing 48 hours ish a month duty so was wondering if to get the injection or not? I spoke to OH and they said I have to get HR to refer me once I start training/start duty or I can get it done at my local GP. I spoke to my GP who said its £35 each injection which I thought is abit expensive but if it's going to protect me on with the amount of hours I plan on doing, I was thinking it's worth the money. What's everyone's idea on it? Is it worth getting it done? If so, through my GP or through OH? …

Hi, I am due to start training soon for specials, I was wondering if anyone knows whether we can claim fuel expenses during training or if it's only for when I'm stationed. Also how to you go about getting expenses back, as I recently had a medical that I was charged for, HR said talk to the OH dept when I'm there, and they said talk to HR. Many thanks

Hey guys We found this forum on Google and hope it is okay, to make this enquiry about collar numbers and identifications in the UK. We're two danish students, who is working on an assignment regarding collar numbers and identifications of police officers on duty. Danish police officers don't have collar numbers and therefore there's been some difficulties about complaints from the public, never being taken care of. After doing a little bit of research we discovered that the UK have been identifying their officers for a long time and our idea is to use the UK for inspiration, argumentation and thought processing when writing about Denmark. Our general questions ar…

[Met Police] I'm quite keen to join the CID as a detective as I enjoy the investigative side of the job. Can anybody tell me how long after your two years probation can you apply to become a detective. Also what sort of training do you go through before becoming a substantive DC? Thanks!
