"Two police officers have been taken off operational duty after they smashed the window and kicked the windscreen of a pensioner's car following a 17-minute chase. The pursuit began when Robert Clive Whatley, 70, drove away while Gwent Police officers were issuing him with a fixed penalty notice for not wearing a seatbelt. The court heard Whatley drove off because he thought he had been dealt with and needed to take medication for a heart condition and a stroke, the Western Mail reported. Whatley, who stayed within the speed limit during the chase, thought the police car following him was sounding its siren because it was escorting him home. He pulled over when confro…

Tory MPs last night urged David Cameron to seize back from Brussels up to 130 powers over crime and policing. In a show of strength, more than 100 Conservative MPs have written to the Prime Minister urging him to return control over a range of contentious crime measures to Westminster. The intervention steps up pressure on Mr Cameron to take a tough stance on Europe, despite the concerns of his Liberal Democrat Coalition colleagues. The letter, signed by former Cabinet ministers John Redwood and Peter Lilley and the current chairman of the party's powerful 1922 Committee, Graham Brady, warns that Britain has just two years to 'opt out' of the measures before they become…

Last Updated 17:48 06/02/2012 Radical Muslim cleric Abu Qatada, who was once dubbed "Osama bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe", will be released from prison within days after being granted bail. The legal ruling was criticised by a Home Office spokesman who called him a "dangerous man who we believe poses a real threat to our security". Qatada had appealed to be freed from jail as he fights deportation to Jordan. It came after European human rights judges ruled last month he could not be sent back there without assurances that evidence gained through torture would not be used against him. Qatada will be released despite the Home Secretary Theresa May stating he wou…

Not even going to make comment on how this officer, like the rest of us "deserve" a pay freeze, pension contribution increase etc.... May be of interest to some on the mainland who believe arming the police is the be all and end all as a response to increased violence towards officers. Several officers were present when this occurred, all of whom armed (some with longs in addition to sidearms). The good news is that the officer, while seriously injured, is stable, recovering well and in good form by all accounts. http://www.u.tv/News/Officer-stabbed-at-Lurgan-house/9c6d5186-482d-424c-a5f3-67f9b3840e48

Police chiefs have paid out £38,000 after a group of trainee officers suffered burns and blisters during a training exercise using CS spray. The 18 rookie officers were asked to walk through a cloud of the noxious gas. The training, at GMP’s Hough End Centre in Chorlton, was designed to get the new officers used to working with the spray, which is used to stop aggressive suspects. Read more at: http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1472344_payout-for-18-rookie-gmp-officers-in-cs-gas-ordeal 10% stronger seems odd to me, would kill some police would meet on the streets. More to the point, why would someone higher up not look into the cost of using lawyers. A…

From the Daily Wail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1300608/Policemen-suspended-smash-grab-raid-disabled-mans-Range-Rover.html Not being funny, but there are a wad of weak excuses put up by the driver that the court saw through. When will folk realise that we don't know who we are ever really dealing with, and if they start acting erratically, they can't be surprised if the Police reaction is direct and to the point. Granted, I don't know the full circumstances, but this appears another story from the Daily Mail's anti-police editorial. I find it scary how many supposedly educated people get all their oipinions from the press, especially the DM - here's anoth…
