Luke Smith, 27, of Wandsworth, was off-duty when he abused the man on the train between Gatwick and East Croydon last October. He was convicted at Croydon Magistrates' Court of a racially aggravated public order offence. The Met said such "appalling behaviour will not be tolerated on or off duty". Smith, who remains suspended, was found not guilty of fare evasion but fined £300 after the public order conviction on Wednesday. He was ordered to pay prosecution costs of nearly £700 and pay £100 to the victim and £100 to another …

A interesting question came up in #AskMetBoss http://www.met.police.uk/askmetboss/ Comment From Guest The jewish community in London recently read about you in the Jewish Newspaper asking jews to join the MSC. How can you resolve this major problem? It's a problem that prevents ultra orthodox jews joining the Met as police officers. If you want many ultra orthodox jews as police officers I suggest you personally assure the ultra otrthodox jewish community that religious jews are welcome…

Olympic torch tackle man near Land's End Police officers on the Olympic torch route tackled a man they thought was attempting to reach one of the torchbearers. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9268852/Law-banning-insulting-language-is-strangling-free-speech.html Law banning insulting language 'is strangling free speech' Former shadow home secretary David Davis said Section 5 of the 1986 Public Order Act was having a ''terrible, chilling effect on democracy''. Polling suggests almost two-thirds of MPs back Mr Davis, according to a campaign which has brought together religious and secular groups along with human rights and minority organisations. Under the legislation, the use of ''insulting words or behaviour'' is outlawed, but opponents say there is too little clarity of what that includes, leading to spurious arres…
