http://policeoracle....ions_58109.html Turnout in yesterday’s Police and Crime Commissioner elections, which mark one of the biggest changes to the Police Service in generations, was extremely low, early results suggest. How they managed to find 81,000 in Wiltshire I find surprising. I cannot help but smile at the low turn out, shows no one is either interested or just does not want this great idea, either way it looks like a dead duck. I have no idea the rest of the results, but I hear in some locations the turn out was under 10% . http://www.camberley.../story.html  FEWER than one in ten voters in Surrey Heath have attended poll stations for the county's police …

ACPO officer tells conference that future force mergers are possible to implement - but unlikely due to the issue of the police precept.Police forces in England and Wales could easily be merged to create a more efficient service – but there is no ambition from government, an ACPO officer has said. CC Mike Barton, the ACPO Lead for Intelligence (pictured), told the Serious and Organised Crime Forum in London that HM Treasury had failed to resolve funding issues the last time proposals to reduce the 43-force model were on the table. These centred around the harmonisation of the police precept in force areas. “There is absolutely no appetite in the treasury to make that h…

When businessman Steve Coupland fought off a violent burglar breaking into his van, the Crown Prosecution Service insisted he should be charged. But after a 12-month fight to clear his name, the case has collapsed – because career criminal Matthew Higgins refused to give evidence against him, saying he ‘got what he deserved’. Mr Coupland, who has never previously been in trouble with the police, had seen his van targeted by thieves on 13 occasions – including the two nights before the incident – and tackled the burglar only after he was attacked with a crowbar. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/9653552/Police-morale-is-plummeting-says-Lord-Stevens.html Lord Stevens appears to have got it correct about morale and the Tory Government. I hope he doesn't think that Ms May and Sham Cam will listen to what he has to say. May and Cameron have an agenda, and they are sticking to it.
