Force's bespoke shift pattern to match policing resources to demand has left officers tired as they work longer into the night.A tailor-made shift pattern devised to place more boots on the ground at times of greatest demand has left officers exhausted as they work longer into the night, Fed leaders have said. One of the hubs is based at the force’s HQ in Bedford while the other is in the major urban area of Luton. Working with branch Federation officials the force created the shift patter…

http://www.dailymail...save-money.html Police were forced to give millions of pounds to a private security firm after locking up too many suspected criminals. Sussex Police was charged extra by Reliance Secure Task Management after detaining more prisoners in their custody centres than was agreed in a £90 million Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deal. Critics claim that the PFI deal could be seen by the public as a reason for officers to let criminals off with cautions instead of arresting them. …

New Policing Minister Damian Green Backs More Privatisation On A Visit To Coventry THE new policing minister backed more privatisation and refused to rule out widespread compulsory redundancy of officers during a visit to Coventry. Conservative Damian Green told the Telegraph that more outsourcing to businesses including security firms such as G4S made sense. He would not be drawn over a controversial call to give forces the power to fire officers of all ranks. Both measures are opposed by Coventry and Warwickshire officers’ representatives the Police Federation, who are also at loggerheads with ministers over proposed changes to pay and conditions…
