A review is to be carried out into how the police and crime commissioners (PCC) elections were conducted The Electoral Commission's chairwoman Jenny Watson said: "We will talk to voters, candidates and returning officers to understand what worked and what didn't." Fewer than 15% of voters turned out in the 41 English and Welsh police areas electing a PCC, a peacetime low. Ministers blamed a lack of familiarity and understanding of the PCC's role. She said the elections had taken place "at an unfamiliar time of year, which is why we have made clear at every stage that it would be important to engage effectively with voters". "The government took a number of decisions …

And to think the then chairman of Hampshire Police Authority, who was a candidate for the PCC role in Hampshire was reprimanded as a result for leaking information. Thank God she lost the election! HE has spent four years trying to clear his name and save his distinguished reputation. Hampshire’s former assistant chief constable Steve Watts gave 32 years service to the police. He was so dedicated that he never took a day off sick. But just days off his retirement he found himself on the other side of the table when he was investigated by Met Police chiefs over claims he had broken the Official Secrets Act. They are claims which the father-of-four always denied and which…

http://www.dailymail...-old-force.html I don't understand what the Daily Mail is trying to achieve, 'revealed' as if it's news that someone suited to a job shouldn't get it? (Edited; sp) I feel the only redeeming feature to this article is the top rated comment beneath it (which I think sums up the nasty tone of the article); "This article is basically one gigantic lie and I really haven't the energy to pick all of its inaccuracies to pieces. I will simply say that the Home Secretary doesn't 'want' to change things, she already 'is' changing things. Pension contributions are changing to nearly 15% over the next 2 years. Officers face bills of £500 per month in pension …
