Despite their constant sabre rattling over the years, this appears to be taking on a new dimension. The media coverage appears to be a little apathetic, I wonder whether we are suffering from the cry wolf syndrome. I have always had a deep interest in, and strong desire to visit the DPRK. I may, however, put that trip on ice for a while.... http://www.bbc.co.uk...d-asia-21974381

A couple convicted of killing six of their children in a house fire in Derby are due to be sentenced later.Mick and Mairead Philpott will reappear at Nottingham Crown Court where they were found guilty of six counts of manslaughter, along with their friend Paul Mosley, on Tuesday. The maximum sentence for the crime is life imprisonment. Mrs Justice Thirlwall was due to pass sentence on Wednesday but needed more time to consider mitigation. The court was told that Philpott, 56, was jailed for seven years in 1978 for attempting to murder a previous girlfriend and given a concurrent five-year sentence for stabbing the woman's mother. In 1991 he received a conditional dis…

When our union, PCS, announced a half day Civil Service strike on 5th April, the Home Office responded by telling Border Force and most of UKBA that they would be deducting a whole day's pay for a half day strike. All other Govt Departments rightly agreed to a half day deduction. As a consequence, Home Office staff have been forced to extend the strike to a full day on 8th April. Not even Jim Hacker's government tried to make a strike longer than called for...

That guy, Kim Jung un has got to be as mad as a box of frogs (so to speak). Coming out with all that rhetoric to the USA, China and Russia. If it all goes t**s up, there will be an awful lot of destruction, and potentially world wide too. It's for that reason that I am pleased that we still have the Trident system. On the Jeremy Vine BBC station at lunchtime, the Trident was being discussed. A couple of people e-mailed in to say that it was not a deterrent. On the contrary, I think that it's mere existence has been in itself that deterrent, no buttons have been pushed (yet) since it's coming into being.

Police records attacks on goths and emosA police force has begun recording attacks on members of subcultures, such as goths and emos, as hate crimes. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is the first force in the UK to treat the offences in such a way. Previously hate crimes were only registered for offences against race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity. GMP has worked with a charity set up following the murder of 20-year-old goth Sophie Lancaster in 2007. Ms Lancaster was attacked in a park in Bacup, Lancashire, on 24 August 2007, along with her boyfriend Robert Maltby, because of the way they were dressed. She was kicked and stamped on as she…

Eileen Arthurs had been working as a neighbourhood officer A police officer has been jailed for two and a half years for misconduct in a public office. Taxpayer funds a £5 million up to £36.1 million. Although I am not against the monarchy surely they should also lead by example and be in it all together with the plebs/serfs. Of course HMG and their cohorts will be getting more too as they will pay less tax. I wonder how many of them are VAT registered to claim all the VAT back - keeping more in their pockets. Tax exemptions etc http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-1616016/Easy-ways-pay-income-tax.html http://money.uk.msn.com/save-money/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=160743441 http://www.sjdaccountancy.com/about/pay_less_tax_contractors.html http://www.standardlife.co.uk/1/site/uk/financial-education/tax-ef…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-21841631 The new Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police is to consider giving Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) the power of arrest. Nick Gargan said he would also review the equipment provided to them. Most members of the area's police and crime panel said they would. Although the story starts saying power of arrest, it goes on to suggest its the power to detain for 30 minutes that other forces PCSO'S have. Ours dont have them so i dont really know all that much about how it would work, what the legislation and training requirement would be. However, in my personal experience those who are told they have to…
