It appears that the Olympics fiasco has caught up with Nick Buckles, the G4S CEO / apologist for the Olympics security cock-up. Sadly, he will be leaving the company after 24 years - but his sorrow will be significantly mitigated by his pay-off - UKP 830,000 salary and UKP 332,000 pension contribution. No doubt, Cameron and his chums will offer him a job somewhere his talents will be appreciated

PARENTS and teachers must not leave it to the police to show youngsters the difference between right and wrong, the force’s watchdog warned yesterday. HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary Tom Winsor More must be done to stop young people being drawn into a culture of crime, said HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary Tom Winsor. And he accused the public and state services of abdicating their responsibility to help tackle the causes of crimes. Officers should spend more time preventing crime so they would have to focus less on catching criminals, Mr Winsor told the Royal United Services Institute think-tank. But families and teachers ought to be helping by instilling a “s…

So that the thread relating to Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes can remain as a tribute to fallen colleagues, perhaps there should be a separate one to discuss related topics? There is a lot of press attention on the fact that Gregan was on Part IV bail, as though GMP somehow had a say in this. We were given this legislation by the government of the day, remember - if he had been kept a minute longer than was legally possible he would have been entitled to massive amounts of compensation for unlawful detention. Similarly, I have heard the most ridiculous questions about why two officers were sent unarmed to this incident. What raised my eyebrows was that two of them were se…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2328035/Machete-killer-Kenyan-man-butchered-400-people-homeland-stay-UK-benefits.html I realise that this is a Daily Mail story but it certainly seems a serious situation when a self-confessed multiple murderer with mental health problems can be allowed to remain in UK, receiving benefits and living in an open community.

A Hampshire PC hopes to set up youth 'peer courts'A police officer is planning a pilot project to try and transform the way some young criminals are dealt with. Hampshire PC Mark Walsh hopes to set up a scheme so young people can decide punishments for peers committing their first crime - if it is a minor offence. PC Walsh will spend six weeks in the USA researching how "peer courts" work after winning funding from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. He hopes his findings can help form the basis for a pilot in Hampshire. The father-of-two has recently been awarded one of 125 Winston Churchill Memorial Trust "travelling fellowships" to fund his fact-finding mission. …

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2328472/NHS-chief-dubbed-man-shame-quit-year-110-000-pension-But-STILL-apology-victims-Stafford-scandal.html Another high-profile failed CEO, Sir David Nicholson, goes .................. but not until next year and with a gold-plated pension - GBP110,000 annually - suitably indexed for sure! This guy should have gone immediately his exploits became public knowledge but, as with all the other "Old Boys", he was protected by the politicians. Cameron could have "thrown him to the lions" and made a name for himself but, as so often is the case, even opposing parties seem reluctant to drop their opponents in the mire by revealing…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2328397/Trainee-accountants-Twitter-boast-knocking-cyclist-bike-sparks-police-probe.html This article really highlights the ignorant views held by a small minority of drivers about cyclists. Fingers crossed the girl gets a decent telling off for what she did!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2323202/Bungling-thief-targets-star-hotel-filled-police-officers--wakes-British-bobbies-raid.html Bungling thief targets four-star hotel filled with police officers - and wakes up three British bobbies during his raid Breaking into a hotel room in Majorca as its occupants slept seemed like a good idea to thief Mohammed Boujida. Unfortunately he woke the guests – three British policemen. Moroccan Boujida, 21, had forced open the officers' hotel window before climbing in and sifting through their belongings. After a struggle - in which the thief attempted to flee and fainted in the process - he was handed over to Spanish…

Some cracking pictures here compliments of The Mirror. The forum won't allow me to upload them saying "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community." It's not hot enough just yet over here but it goes to show the importance of keeping hydrated.
