Doesn't sound good.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-22754580 I think that the Crown Court Building in Ipswich is one of the more modern in design, meaning that the Judge doesn't sit as high up, when compared with the older more traditional internal layouts. Perhaps this contributed to it? Having re-read the news report, bit confused how the assailant had not been arrested? Is this why the term "held" in Contempt of Court is used? I hope that this idiot feels the full force of the Law, or else this will send out all the wrong signals.

A man who was arrested in Bath for shoplifting phoned the chief constable the following day to praise police for the way he was dealt with. The suspect was picked up in the city centre on suspicion of stealing items from Waitrose and being drunk and disorderly, and taken to the Manvers Street police station. NickGargan While he was in custody he told the arresting officers PC Ray Evans and Sgt Beatrice Hayes about some medication which he needed to take and they went to fetch it for him. He was released on bail pending further inquiries and the next day contacted Avon and Somerset chief constable Nick Gargan’s office to tell him how well his staff had dealt wi…

SEX attackers and paedophiles are among thousands of county criminals who have been given cautions by police rather than facing court. Shocking data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act shows hundreds of perverts and violent criminals in Worcestershire are not even facing court, let alone jail. Instead West Mercia Police is handing out cautions for serious offences like sexual assault, wounding, producing indecent images of children, criminal damage, assaulting police officers, possessing class A drugs, fraud, theft and arson. West Mercia Police say cautions are rarely used for serious offences, except in exceptional circumstances, and are only ever given out …

Tragic incident. An elderly man died when an unattended police van rolled forward and hit him in a park in West Yorkshire. The man was struck by the van in Pudsey Park when the vehicle moved after officers called to deal with a disturbance in the park got out of it. Paramedics were called to the park, in Church Lane, Pudsey, but the man died of his injuries. The incident, at about 14:15 BST, was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-22744345

Scotland Yard has discussed with the government a radical change in race relations law to allow positive discrimination in recruitment, as the growth of London's ethnic minority populations makes the gap between the police ranks and those they serve wider than ever. In a Guardian interview, the Metropolitan police assistant commissioner Simon Byrne said the plans the Met were examining would mean they "could only recruit, in very broad terms, a white officer if you can recruit a black or minority ethnic person at the same" time. Byrne said current law "doesn't allow us to be as bold as we could be". Nine out of 10 Met officers are white, while the latest census data sho…
