Police have seized components for what could be the UK's first ever 3D-printed gun in what they called a "really significant discovery". Greater Manchester police said they believed the parts represented the next generation of firearms, which could be created by gangs in the privacy of their homes and smuggled with ease because they could avoid X-ray detection. The gun parts were discovered, along with a 3D printer, when officers executed warrants in the Baguley area of the city on Thursday. Officers found what were thought to be a plastic magazine and trigger which could be fitted together to make a viable gun. They said the haul also included a quantity of gunpowder.…

http://news.sky.com/story/1159349/police-find-first-3d-gun-printing-factory Police have discovered a 3D printer which they believe criminals were using to try to make a gun, Sky News can reveal. In what is believed to be the first case of its kind, officers in Manchester on Thursday seized a printer and other components potentially used in the manufacture of firearms during a raid. As part of an operation to target organised crime gangs in the city, police found a trigger and a magazine they believe is capable of holding bullets, both of which are thought to have been made using the printer. Officers believe the raid - in the Bagley area of the city - could have uncov…

A police officer was taken to hospital after being headbutted, bitten and attacked by his own baton while trying to arrest a man in north-east London. It happened as police were called to a car crash in Waltham Forest at 01:18 GMT. A Met spokesman said the male officer tried to arrest a man for drink-driving when he was attacked. A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. The injured officer was taken to hospital with cuts to his head and hands and has since been discharged. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24693544 Hope the officer has a speedy recovery and returns to work.

HEADLINES . Home Sec: ACPO's 'policing monopoly' finished Theresa May tells conference that the Association of Chief Police Officers was not accountable enough to decide the future of policing. Date - 26th October 2013 The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) is an unaccountable body and its “monopoly” on policing is rightly at an end, the Home Secretary has said. Theresa May (pictured) told the College of Policing’s inaugural conference that the new professional body would have to be visible across the law enforcement landscape. She said it had not been right that ACPO had held a “monopoly” on deciding the future of policing …

Police in Surrey have apologised for sending a tweet that said "Officers 1 Immigrants 0!! #WeWillCatchUpWithYou". The message was posted from Guildford Police's @GuildfordBeat Twitter account about an operation with the UK Border Agency to crack down on illegal immigrants. Several users of Twitter criticised the post, which has now been deleted. Surrey Police said the officer who sent the tweet had been given "words of advice". One Twitter user, Jack Law, tweeted in response: "Racism 1 Police 0 #WeWillCatchUpWithYou". Another, Sinthia Siren, ‏wrote: "Absolutely disgraceful tweet from @GuildfordBeat regarding immigrants. Whatever were they thinking?" In another messa…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24662243 As much as I think this kind of evidence is excellent, I can't help but see a future where officers will not be believed without video evidence, and an assumption that if for whatever reason the camera wasn't turned on then something dodgy must have been happening..

http://www.college.police.uk/en/docs/Draft_Code_of_Ethics.pdf - behold the draught proposal of the code of ethics. Reading through it brings 2 things to mind. The first being the bit in Robocop where he is given so many priorities that he is incapable of functioning as an officer. The second is, how is it that we have apparently been able to do all these naughty things before without being stuck on. There are some lovely points, which read by a cynical officer might seem that they are setting us up to be unable to do anything other than exactly what they want or breach the code. ie: To have honesty and integrity you will be resilient to the many uncertainties, pr…

Giggling 999 call handler sacked for 'being too jolly'AN emergency call handler has been sacked - for being too jolly. The call handler was sacked from her job back at police HQ in Springfield [CASCADE/EASTNEWS] It has been awful, changed my personality and crushed me Sue Heeney Sue Heeney, 38, says she chuckled with a nervous 999 caller to put him at ease. But Essex Police dismissed her for gross misconduct. Miss Heeney, who'd been in the job for four years, says she was simply trying to lighten the moment when caller Paul Turner rang to report a family member for alleged drink-driving, after much agonising. She said: "People need to know they are t…
