Nice result for BTP here, and a very interesting operation to read about. Four men who planned to put illegal firearms onto the streets of Scotland will be spending the next 32 years behind bars. William Dempsey, Barry Kelly, Craig Thomson Colquhoun and James Martin Ashdown were sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court earlier today [Friday, 25 October] for their part in a plot to move firearms into Scotland. The court heard police were first alerted to the potential conspiracy on Friday, 17 August 2012, whilst Dempsey was at Carlisle rail station. At the station Dempsey engaged two cleaners in conversation and asked them to look after two bags he was carrying as he belie…

Great clip (originally in the Liverpool Echo) of Dutch police politely knocking on the doors of various Scousers and Mancs in the Netherlands. That looks a heavy ram but do like the bit with the chain saw! I also notice that Dutch officers are not afraid to draw their weapons Original Echo story also below http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/two-liverpool-men-wanted-after-6260213

Baby Peter's mother has been jailed indefinitely for causing or allowing the toddler's death. The 17-month-old died after months of abuse in Haringey, north London. His mother must serve at least five years. Her 32-year-old boyfriend was jailed for 12 years for causing the death and for life for raping a two-year-old girl. He must serve at least 10 years. Their lodger, Jason Owens, was jailed indefinitely for causing Baby Peter's death, to serve at least three years. THE PUBLIC will have the opportunity to follow the footsteps of beat bobbies next week thanks to the Track-a-Cop scheme. After the success of Track-a-Cop in Tipton Green, officers from the South Yardley neighbourhood policing team will connect to a GPS tracking system which will allow the public to keep tabs on their patrol route and community work. Using a smartphone application the team will regularly upload route maps to their twitter feed -@SOUTHYARDLEYNHT − meaning residents will be able to see exactly where officers have been on the beat. Sergeant Russell Webb said: "We work closely with the community of South Yardley and have a really good Street Watch group tha…

Up to 550 extra police officers could be operational in the West Midlands, under plans by the police and crime commissioner. The West Midlands force, the second largest in England and Wales, has seen 2000 posts cut since 2010. Labour PCC Bob Jones said more frontline officers were now needed to combat crime. He said the extra officers would be funded by £60m of reserves as well as a rise in council tax. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-24742099#TWEET939565 Perhaps things were handled badly, perhaps it's just a sign of the times. I think in the current climate, the number of officers willing to take on a pursuit, even if it is authorised, must be reducing. It just doesn't seem to worth the hassle. I'm surprised there is no Control Room Inspector in the frame.
