The chief constable of Avon and Somerset is thinking about giving Police Community SUPPORT Officers the power of arrest after the PCC has asked him to consider the move. If they do get the power I hope the constables in that part of the world do not lift a finger to help them deal with all the grief that comes with arresting a person, case files, CPS etc. IF they do help then they are only helping the Goverment erode the Office of constable

A police and crime commissioner has angrily told his chief constable that the force “must do more and do it faster”, claiming crime is not falling fast enough. Shaun Wright told South Yorkshire Police that his efforts to shield its frontline from cuts were not producing results and the force’s performance in key areas was “unacceptable”. He said this meant it was “failing to meet the objectives set out in my police and crime plan”. Mr Wright complained that, while crime is down, the rate it is falling at slower the national average and the force is in the bottom five when measured by overall crime per 1,000 residents. Police have seized components for what could be the UK's first ever 3D-printed gun in what they called a "really significant discovery". Greater Manchester police said they believed the parts represented the next generation of firearms, which could be created by gangs in the privacy of their homes and smuggled with ease because they could avoid X-ray detection. The gun parts were discovered, along with a 3D printer, when officers executed warrants in the Baguley area of the city on Thursday. Officers found what were thought to be a plastic magazine and trigger which could be fitted together to make a viable gun. They said the haul also included a quantity of gunpowder.…
