Hi can someone hopefully explain for me the process of detaining someone before arrest... For example officers will often detain someone on the street for example for a search which has its own obvious power. But when detaining someone say while you want to keep hold of them but you are making enquiries with control room or witnesses to confirm a description; what would you do if they then wanted to leave? Would you go down the lines of obstruct or would you rush to arrest for the suspected offence and then dearrest if enquires eliminated the suspect? Hope my query gets interpreted right and I am after some factual knowlege to use in the future rather than just speculat…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25960131 My own opinion only they are a waste of money to the police service and yes it is time to abolish police commissioners.

Article does not mention, but a guilty verdict was given on Thursday, and sentenced to two years imprisonment. A trainee special constable tried to con an elderly woman out of £10,000 and valuable jewellery by posing as a courier, a court has heard. Naiem Hussain, 21, allegedly took part in the scam by escorting 86-year-old Doris King to a bank in Hainault to collect the money. He turned up at her flat in Chigwell in February last year after she was called by a person claiming to be a policeman saying her debit card had been cloned. “Pc Brown” told Ms King she would have to bring the money along with a gold watch and a pearl necklace to the Old Bailey to prove she wa…

Police use ice cream music to embarrass teen rioters in Belfast The PSNI used ice cream music to embarrass teen rioters in Belfast Nursery rhymes set to music are deeply uncool. Just ask the bottle-throwing teenagers on the Twinbrook estate on outskirts of west Belfast. Ice cream music was played to them as they misbehaved and it stopped them. In an action that was cleverly psychological, the nursery tunes were blasted through the loudspeakers of a Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) armored Land Rover after the patrol came under attack from about 15 teenagers last weekend. The police have said no further action was taken. However it's understood that seni…

The government should allow magistrates to dispense on-the-spot justice inside police stations at peak times, a report by a right-leaning think tank has said. Policy Exchange said magistrates should sit during evenings and weekends, as part of a set of proposals to speed up the judicial system. It also suggested recruiting 10,000 new magistrates while closing more courts. Justice Minister Damian Green said the government was "looking at the role of magistrates". It comes as Her Majesty's Court and Tribunals Service faces a requirement to cut its budget by 37.8% between 2012 and 2016. 'Weakens' punishment The report says there are now more magistrates' courts in Engl…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25883238 At least 150 police dog attacks on innocent people have been reported in the past three years, a BBC investigation has revealed. Police forces in the UK said they handed out a total of £120,000 in compensation in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Claimants included children as young as 10, joggers and a photographer. The grandmother of one victim wants the use of aggressive dogs for enforcement purposes banned but police bosses have said they perform a vital role. Tom Cutbill was playing in his grandmother's back garden in Oldbury, West Midlands, when he was bitten on the leg by a police dog last year. 'Life changing' Officers had b…

Am I not right that this already happens in some states in America and it's proven to be quite successful?

I do not notice any of the countries in the third world, or any where else have collections for "Flood Aid" in the UK. We must have donated millions to aid other countries. Divert the money from overseas aid packages. India and China would never miss a few million. Perhaps it is just me being grumpy.

In todays Times there is an article on page 6 stating that all serving West Mids officers are to hand over their passwords to all their social media accounts. I cant link to it because it is hidden behind the pay wall. If you are with WMP then you'll already be aware and possibly, already as a consequence, too afraid to confirm this. The policy reads, quoting from the piece "the corporate communications department will have access to all sites and will be capable of removing inappropriate material" . This follows the demise of an Inspector, widely respected and read who blogged as "mental health cop" who has been suspended, its not entirely clear why, apparently for b…
