A youth charged with raping his own mother has been bailed. At the second hearing of his case magistrates at Preston decided to allow the 14-year-old bail. He is the youngest ever man to be charged with raping his mother in Britain. He was bailed on condition he lives and sleeps at an address to be decided by social services. He was charged at the weekend following a complaint to police by his mother. The offence is alleged to have taken place at the family home in Blackpool. Not the biggest but is very shocking! http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news/crime/teenager-charged-with-raping-mother-is-bailed-1-6463446

Merseyside Police were ordered to hold fresh misconduct meetings with the officers involved by a High Court judge after an internal investigation and misconduct hearing recommended by the Independent Police Complaints Commission ended with no action being taken. Ross Miller, from Anfield, was pulled to the ground by police outside Marks and Spencer on Church Street in Liverpool city centre in February 2011 and had the riot control chemical sprayed in his face despite being held in a seated position by officers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26277087 I can see this being helpful in some respects but there are many instances when I see it might not work so well. One advantage, I suppose, is it gives the guilty less time to think up a good story. But what about a proper defence of the innocent? They might feel bamboozled into pleading guilty just to get it over with. What about those slightly under the influence? And surely stewing on a forthcoming appearance in the scary courtroom is a benefit too? Are they planning to have the whole court and caboodle in the nick? Prosecutor, defence, probation, clerk and all? 3 mags or just one? And is this not just trying…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2566273/How-longer-paedophilia-apologists-stay-silent-Even-Left-demands-answers-senior-Labour-trio.html One wonders how long this can go on before a proper investigation is mounted into this scandal. Still, despite Dromey's previous, no doubt he is untouchable like his wife & compatriots!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2539378/Couple-took-children-school-weeks-holiday-Rhodes-face-jail-refusing-pay-fines.html Is it reasonable that parents should be prevented from taking children on holiday during term time - particularly if it is only for one or two weeks? What strikes me as unfair about this case is the suggestion that as the parents did not pay the fine within 21 days, the amount they are required to pay has been doubled. Does this happen in the case of other fines - I seem to recall people being fined for more serious offences and being given a lot longer tyhan 21 days to pay? All-in-all, it seems the thin end of the wedge to me!
