http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2694867/Muggers-jailed-ballet-dancer-postman-robbed-minutes-other.html The judge described the offences as very serious and then gives laughably short sentences - 16 months and two years - what is the point? These sentences will neither deter others nor, frankly, punish these individuals as they will serve maybe 6 months in reasonable acceptable surroundings. Robbing the Royal Mail as once punished by execution or transportation - either significantly preferable for the public as a punishment to a few months in a UK prison - even HMP Manchester (no longer called "Strangeways" because that has Victorian prison connotations) i…

First seen here: “@BTPChief: Interesting report of debate on suicide prevention led by Madeline Moon M.P http://t.co/9zX5s5yIDC” But it's the Daily Mail: Police officers are filling gaps to support people who attempt to commit suicide rather than being free to carry out their main duties, MPs have heard. Madeleine Moon, chairwoman of the all-party parliamentary group on suicide and self-harm prevention, also warned police negotiators felt frustrated by the lack of help in accident and emergency departments for people they rescued. More help was needed to prevent people attempting to take their life again within 24 hours of the original suicide attempt while officers…

Several reports and articles of a passenger plane being shot down over Ukraine airspace at 30,000 feet.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25450555 Good result, it couldn't have been anything else though. It'll be interesting to see the sentence. Also, I'm surprised the defense to attempted murder was 'We were trying to achieve martyrdom' (which I'm rather pleased they were denied) worked.

Members of the public have said they would not want to be in the position of police when faced with some of the decisions they have to make, a survey by the College of Policing has revealed. It comes as a Code of Ethics – a first for policing in England and Wales – is laid as a code of practice before Parliament today (Tue) as part of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. To mark the official launch of the Code, the College asked 2,043 members of the public how they might deal with some of the ethical dilemmas faced each day by those in policing. More than two-thirds of respondents (68%) said they wouldn’t want to be in the position of a pol…

You know what? It think I may have got it all wrong about Dave and Co. This reshuffle has really made me take another look at the Tory party. The rearranging of the figures on the chess board has made me realise that they and their policies are nothing like what I thought they were. This changes everything!

So not much of a furore about HMG shredding files - it is a bit of an odd one that Brittan comes out with this mysterious file post the Rolf Harris verdict - he must have cast his eye over the file and seen and remembers some of the names, however, he defends his stance on passing the file over. For me he must have read the file or at least the names of those 'honourable' folk that appeared. MPs of course do use The Right Honourable title and Brittan must feel he has to protect the names. The author of the report has passed away so Brittan it seems is the only one we know at present that has seen it. Surely it is time to fess up and let us get into the realms of the d…
