http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10971920/Police-officer-shot-in-face-as-attacker-cycles-off-laughing.html A female police officer was almost killed after one of her first house calls led to her being shot in the face and right hand, court hears A police woman was shot in the face and a hand by a man who cycled off laughing, a court heard. PC Suzanne Hudson had only been working in frontline policing for a few days and was on her first job with a new partner when she knocked on the door of James Leslie, who has schizophrenia, and was shot. Leslie shot the 33-year-old with a sawn off shot gun and cycled off, mocking PC Hudson and her colleague PC Richard Wh…

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/african-girls-sue-british-airways-over-alleged-abuse-075340598--finance.html#JFhN18F Whilst I have every sympathy for the alleged victims of this BA pilot, I find it pretty unacceptable that lawyers are "fishing" for business overseas particularly when they probably think they won't have to make much effort as big corporates, like BA, will settle out-of-court. Maybe I am just being cynical but UK lawyers seem to be adopting the "ambulance-chasing" tactics that are so often decried in USA.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2706486/Top-police-officers-26-year-career-tatters-jailed-changing-CV-lies-win-string-jobs.html A senior police officer's 26-year long career is over after he was jailed for lying on his CV to win a string of top jobs. Mike Martin, 46, from Carlisle appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday, after a four year inquiry into claims he exaggerated and fabricated his work achievements to clinch promotion to higher ranks with various forces across the UK. The court heard heard how the Superintendent falsely claimed to have a university degree - a BSc in Risk and Security Management - and said he had taken part into the investigation …

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28511862 Ministers are "turning their backs" on victims of domestic violence, Labour's Yvette Cooper will say later. The shadow home secretary will point to "deeply worrying" data suggesting more frequent use of "community resolutions" to handle domestic violence cases. Ms Cooper will repeat Labour's promise to ban the use of the resolutions - which can include apologies or compensation - for domestic violence. The Home Office said using these for serious crimes was "not acceptable". Data compiled by Labour from 15 police forces showed there were 3,305 uses of community resolutions for domestic violence in 2013 - up from 1,337 in 2009. C…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22610534 This is a difficult subject. I dealt with a Domestic Violence at the weekend, the woman wouldn't make a statement and when we tried to persuade her to do so we got thrown out the house! Seemed to me the lady didn't want services involved for some reason (claiming benefits illegally?), and I think thats what will stop a lot of people looking for help in domestic violence, they don't want the services looking into their lives in detail. There is always the view that "it'll get better, it can't get any worse" that seems to take hold and unfortunately that can be fatal. David Gikawa, who murdered ex-girlfriend Linah Keza at her flat i…

A police sergeant brutally attacked when he was sent alone on a call out has received a written apology from his chief constable. Chris Burningham, 36, was left with horrific facial injuries in a struggle with a man threatening a woman in her flat in 2010. His attached repeatedly stamped on his head. Chris quit Warwickshire police and shed because officers are supposed to answer 999 calls in pairs. After a three-year battle he won a £3,000 payout. Chief Constable Andy Parker's apology admitted there were "lessons to be learned" Chris, of Rugby, said: It's just a shame it has taken over three years. I think they hoped I would go away. "I shouldn't have been sent …

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2701390/Teenage-armed-robber-pointed-shotgun-shopkeeper-seven-year-old-daughter-walks-free-court-young-impressionable.html Why am I not surprised at the asinine remarks of a criminal court judge? An 18 years-old points a loaded shotgun at a shopkeeper and her 7 years-old daughter and the judge decides not to imprison him because he cannot discount the possibility that he was encouraged to do it by others more criminally experienced. WTF ............. at 18 years, he's an adult, he takes a loaded shotgun into a shop and points it at the shopkeeper (very clear in the CCTV images) - what more evidence is necessary that this individ…

Wouldn't it be best to give them the cost of their airfare home and get them on a flight tout-suite?

The Police Service of England and Wales is suffering the biggest cuts of any in Europe. Police Forces are being asked to do more with less. Almost 16,000 police officers have already gone and the police workforce will have reduced by 34,000 by the time of the General Election. With the thin blue line stretched ever thinner, the public is seeing ever fewer Bobbies on the beat. Now, in a report released today, the government's own watchdog, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, is warning that neighborhood policing is at risk. Neighborhood policing is the bedrock of policing, local policing with local roots working with local communities to build relationships of tru…

http://www.policeoracle.com/news/Police+Finance/2014/Jul/21/Three-forces-risk-becoming-inviable-in-future_84712.html HMI has serious concerns over Gwent. Perhaps Gwent got rid of the wrong person when Carmel Napier went. PCC Johnston doesn't appear to be up to the job with his arrogant and pompous attitude, perhaps Napier was the 'good guy' in all this. I wonder how Farrar feels about the report from HMI. Has he taken his jacket off yet in this hot weather. “Gwent is managing its savings requirement by reducing its workforce in this way – but this is not an appropriate approach. This, together with a lack of developed plans for achieving a balanced bu…
