Source: http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/commonwealth-games/cwg-news/federation-in-probe-over-treatment-of-police-officers.24890433 The Scottish Police Federation says it is looking into a number of complaints, as yet unsubstantiated, linked to the treatment of officers during Glasgow 2014, including allegations of some soiling themselves after not receiving appropriate toilet breaks. It has been claimed the officers involved in these incidents have since resigned, but Police Scotland says it has not received any reports of this nature. The Federation has also received reports of officers not receiving food breaks or being relieved of their duties when they should,…

Met police ban recruits who live outside London Police chiefs hope move will help double the proportion of minority ethnic officers in the force. The Metropolitan police are to announce a ban on new recruits who do not live in London, to reverse the trend of officers commuting in from the home counties to police the capital's diverse communities. Police chiefs hope the plan will help double the proportion of minority ethnic officers in Britain's biggest force, which has faced criticism for being too white compared with the city it serves. Four in 10 Londoners are from an ethnic minority, compared with 11% of Met officers. Of recent intakes, about 10% of new officers…

Victims of crime are being "encouraged" to investigate offences themselves, an inspection of police forces in England and Wales has found. HM Inspectorate of Constabulary said criminal damage and car crime were "on the verge of being decriminalised" because forces had "almost given up". In some cases victims were asked to check for CCTV or fingerprints. The Association of Chief Police Officers said austerity meant forces had to set priorities.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29053978 Why can't people see, we have far less resources, less money and staff. People will just have to lump it. We can't do it, we just can't so that's it.

Stop and search: the proposals were unveiled by the Liberal Democrats today (Picture: Glenn Copus) Armed police, riot squads and officers carrying out some stop-and-search in London would have to wear body cameras under Liberal Democrat proposals unveiled today. The law and order reform, which will be in the party’s 2015 general election manifesto, will also require police to get a judge’s approval to carry out controversial Section 60 stop-and-searches. The existing law lets a senior officer authorise the stopping and searching of individuals in a certain area without suspicion of wrongdoing if he or she believes violence is about to erupt or that people are carr…

The news that nobody wanted to hear... Police searching for missing three-year-old Mikaeel Kular have found the body of a young boy. Assistant Chief Constable Malcolm Graham announced the discovery just after 1am at a hastily convened news conference. The body was found shortly before midnight, he said. One person has been detained in connection with Mikaeel's disappearance, and Sky sources say it is Mikaeel's mother Rosdeep. ACC Graham said: "The investigation into the disappearance of Mikaeel Kular has been wide-ranging and fast moving. "As a result of enquiries the body of a young child was recovered in Fife just before midnight. "We strongly believe this to b…

A PCSO who claimed he was looking for a cat when he was caught shining a laser pen beam at a police helicopter has been given a two-year community order. James McIvor, 53, of Icknield Way, Luton, was convicted in December of acting in a negligent manner to endanger the safety of an aircraft. Luton Crown Court heard the helicopter had been hovering above McIvor's home. McIvor, who faces a police disciplinary hearing later in February, was also ordered to pay £3,500 in costs. He was acquitted of a charge of recklessly endangering the safety of an aircraft. The court heard that McIvor, who has been a PCSO with British Transport Police since 2008, had shone the green las…

This case has generated a fair bit of debate locally about how proportionate a five year jail sentence would be. I'd certainly struggle to make the case for it being proportionate.

Damned if we don't. And so the merry go round continues with headline story that Police in Hampshire refuse to back down over their actions to trace this young boy and his family. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-29003431 Having read the background story of why they took the child away, it makes some sense - NHS refusing treatment - they are of course on the bones due to cutbacks and have to make decisions re financing such treatment vs probable outcome. As a parent with the wherewithal to take up such treatment I think this family on the face of it have made a difficult choice. Of course the reporting of the taking of the child was quite alarming - th…

With further 10 million pound savings to be made plans for reduction is on its way. Why is it when you question the PCC role about how useless it is to keep a commissioner, you get a snotty reply from the management? Or you get threatened with getting sacked. Its nice to see how they live a luxury life style on other people s misery whilst there are dedicated staff and officers who give their lives to the job and worry about the next few months to come especially when you have a 25 year mortgage to pay.
