Chief constables in England and Wales have been warned there are "no excuses" for "routinely" identified failings. Sir Thomas Winsor, the Chief Inspector of Constabulary, also criticised police investigations involving children, saying they were allocated to staff without the right skills or experience. A firearms policeman with a history of controversial Twitter posts has used the social media platform to describe gang members as "animals". Sgt Harry Tangye was commenting on a video that compared gang members suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to troops in a warzone. Police officers were injured and five people were arrested as scuffles broke at a 'free Tommy Robinson' protest in central London. Thousands of protesters descended on Trafalgar Square for the protest before marching to Whitehall after the right wing activist was jailed for breaking contempt of court laws. Footage posted on social media shows a large group of men surrounding police and hurling objects while shouting "we want Tommy out". Scotland Yard today arrested eight people suspected of falsely claiming tens of thousands of pounds by saying they were victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster. Scotland Yard has ordered 132 football hooligans to surrender their passports to prevent them travelling to the World Cup in Russia. The Londoners with football-related convictions are subject to banning orders which prevent them from travelling to watch England abroad. A man has been arrested after a car ploughed into pedestrians in Greater Manchester, leaving five people injured. Police were called to Europa Way, in Trafford Park, at 9.50pm to reports that a car collided with a number of pedestrians. Five people, said to be seriously hurt, were taken to hospital by paramedics, while a sixth person attended hospital of their own accord with injuries not thought to be serious.
