Front-line officers in remote, rural communities could be routinely armed in order to deal with terror threats, police chiefs have said. It comes after a drive to recruit these officers in England and Wales fell short by about 100. Police said arming officers in remote areas would be a last resort. Counter-terrorist specialist firearms officers (CTSFOs) are trained with special forces to deal with a raft of situations, including hostage rescues and terror attacks. Plans were put in place to bolster the UK's capa…

Full story An example of when social media engagement can go quite wrong. No doubt the posts that were being refereed to were removed swiftly and now the media are posting examples of rather tame mocking responses as the posts that drew this response. This response was always going to go wrong all the same.

https://www.buxtonadvertiser.co.uk/news/buxton-police-station-could-lose-its-13-custody-cells-1-9160961 It is hard to believe that Derbyshire are considering closing their Custody Suite at Buxton and sending prisoners to Chesterfield, and/or renting space for custody in GMP at Ashton Under Lyne. It certainly makes you wonder what is going on in Command's minds. Ok, we are controlled by PACE but I do not believe that when PACE came in anyone envisaged prisoners being transported many miles, wasting Police time, Solicitors time, or anyone else involved in the justice system. It is little wonder that officers are discouraged from exercising their Powers of Arrest.
