Dorset grandmother is sent police rifle by courier A GRANDMOTHER had a shock when she was sent a police training gun by mistake. A package containing a black Heckler & Koch modified rifle was delivered by a courier to Catherine Roots when it should have been sent to firearms officers at nearby Dorset Police HQ at Winfrith. Police later explained a gun supply company made a mistake with the postcode. Instead of writing down DT2 8DZ, Mrs Root’s postcode of DT2 8DT was on the package. Mrs Roots, who is aged in her 50s and runs a smallholding, said: “I was absolutely and totally shocked, and petrified. I get a lot of packages and I signed for it thinking it was…

MPs said they raised ‘serious questions’ over whether courts can trust the evidence given by police convicted of dishonesty. The list of crimes relates to Hampshire Police. Among its 4,000 officers,…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7757908.stm Thousands of offenders in England and Wales are to wear high visibility vests while doing community service. Ministers have ordered 10,000 orange bibs with "Community Payback" on the back identifying them to the public. The government hopes the uniforms will increase confidence in community-based punishments which are seen by some as a soft option compared to prison. But probation groups warn the vests could "increase the risk" of offenders becoming targets for attacks. Harry Fletcher, assistant general secretary of the National Association of Probation Officers, told the BBC's Today programme: "Wearing the so-called vest…
