From today's Sun: A COP with a severe speech impediment is still a rookie after FIVE years. The probationary officer, thought to have a severe stutter, has repeatedly failed passing-out exams because of his difficulty talking. The disability means he is not allowed out patrolling the streets and cannot deal with the public. Instead, he does admin duties at a police station in London on his full £30,000-a-year salary. But ex-Met commander John O’Connor demanded yesterday: “Why on earth was he ever employed? “We should seriously question whether he should be in the police. He may be a decent and intelligent person. But his physical impairment means he cann…

When climate camp protesters descended on the site of the Kingsnorth power station for a week-long summer demonstration, the scale of the police operation to cope with them was enormous. Police were accused of using aggressive tactics, confiscating everything from toilet rolls and board games to generators and hammers. But ministers justified what they called the "proportionate" £5.9m cost of the operation, pointing out that 70 officers had been injured in the course of their duties. But data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act puts a rather different slant on the nature of those injuries, disclosing that not one was sustained in clashes with demonstrators. T…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7814292.stm A mother and her two sons who supplied cocaine to London clubbers virtually 24 hours a day have all been jailed. 10 Years would be closer to the mark, pathetic sentence.

A young driving offender has been told he faces the prospect of a jail shower "with the gorillas in the mist" if he continues to break the law. Sydney Magistrate Brian Maloney gave 19-year-old Cody Heap a stark warning about jail life in an attempt to scare the youth into good behaviour. "You'll find big, ugly, hairy, strong men (in jail) who've got faces only a mother could love that will pay a lot of attention to you - and your anatomy," the magistrate said. Heap appeared at the city's Downing Centre Court charged with driving without a licence, failing to stop at a police alcohol check point and driving dangerously. It was his third time before the courts for drivi…

An article in today's herald newspaper. regarding police probationers having to pay for own training?? Police officers would have to pay thousands of pounds for their training under proposals being considered by Scotland's most senior ranks. Chief Constables have created a working group to consider plans which would mean members of the public paying for their own police degrees and then applying to join the service. The move would signal a radical departure from the traditional entry to forces in which successful applicants undergo a rigorous 15-week training programme at the Scottish Police College (SPC) at Tulliallan in Fife, for which they pay nothing. The Associat…

From 5 January 2009, an 18-month trial will allow motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and tricycles - but not those with sidecars - to travel in most red route bus lanes. Drivers of these vehicles will be able to use red route bus lanes currently used by cyclists and taxi drivers during operational hours. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, delivers another manifesto pledge by introducing this trial, which will last a maximum of 18 months. It does not include bus lanes on borough roads. Decisions about these roads lie with the individual boroughs. During the trial we will undertake monitoring to help determine whether to make the regulation permanent. (there are more …

Source: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/poli...icle5439604.ece So the EU and the Home Office have allowed a law in which Officers with permission from a senior rank can "hack" peoples computers without their consent or without them even knowing. This can be done remotely. As someone who does an IT degree, we do bits of IT law, and well I am pretty sure this new law breaks invasion of privacy laws "He said the authorities could break into a suspect’s home or office and insert a “key-logging” device into an individual’s computer." Is this not breaking and Entering? This is a kind of spying. I have nothing to hide, yes I watch porn but who doesn't but with the Ho…

Sussex Police has been criticised for its decision to spend thousands of pounds on a massage service for call centre staff. The force has invited tenders for a three-year contract to provide head massages at its bases in Lewes, Brighton and Haywards Heath. Sussex Police Federation said the contract, reportedly worth up to £10,000, was "outrageous". But the force said it relieved stress and had been used since November 2005. It said the current three-year contract had come to an end. Sussex Police employs about 400 staff at its call centres. Chairman of the Sussex Police Federation, Brian Stockham, said: "To spend public money on something like this seems outr…

Add on the percentage of crimes that no-one bothers reporting anymore and the percentage investgated but never solved and it makes you wonder what a tiny fraction of the crime happening in the UK is ever addressed by the police and what results a cost-benefit analysis of the police to society would bring. Revealed: Police failing to investigate 40% of crimes - because they are too hard to solve Police are failing to investigate almost four in every ten crimes, it was revealed last night. The offences include sex attacks, violent robberies, harassment, burglary and drug incidents. Instead of being pursued, the cases are simply filed away by officers who do not conside…
