Link. As an IT professional, I get a bit sceptical about this sort of thing. It sounds to me like another Jacqui Smithism (along the lines of 'I will remove everything illegal from the Web' and 'The ID card database will be unhackable because it's not on the Internet'). It strikes me as something that sounds great to (New Labour) politicians, but impractical (interesting what you get away with in the name of National Security, mind you). It's scary, but from a technical point of view it's not as simple as they seem to be suggesting. But, I put it to you... ...What's this about not requiring a warrant? Surely this is one of the fundamental principles of English law, one …

extremely foolish of them not to report the damage. The possible consequences could have been awful.... Two British Airways (BA) ground staff were arrested after an aeroplane was damaged at Heathrow Airport in west London, police have said. The pair, 54 and 49, were questioned over an allegation that a baggage truck was driven into a BA jet on 9 January, BBC crime correspondent Ben Ando said. He said police did not believe the incident was terrorism-related. The pair have been released on bail. A BA spokeswoman said they had been suspended while the inquiry continues. The Airbus A321 jet is currently being examined by BA engineers. The 80 passengers due to fly …

A SERIOUSLY injured policeman had to be rushed to hospital in a fire truck because no ambulance was available. A special equipment unit (SEU) was transformed into the makeshift ambulance because the patient, an on duty police motorcyclist, needed urgent medical treatment following a crash in Southampton. It was the second time in just a matter of hours on Friday that an ambulance was not able to respond to an emergency in the city after a pensioner was left on the ground for 70 minutes after slipping and suffering a suspected broken leg. The officer, in his 50s, had been involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Golf close to Southampton train station and suffered se…

Police fire 50,000-volt Taser at pensioner, 89, after threat to kill himself By Daily Mail Reporter Police fired a 50,000-volt stun gun at an 89-year-old pensioner after he threatened to cut his own throat with broken glass, it emerged today. Officers use the Taser – which can trigger heart attacks and has led to the deaths of 270 people in the U.S. - after the man had escaped from a care home. Fearing the pensioner was going to commit suicide they fired the stun gun, which pierced his body with two dart-like wires and knocked him to the ground. North Wales Police, whose controversial chief constable famously tested the Taser on himself in 2007, insisted its use…

I bet he wont be doing that again after a whooping fine! A man has been fined almost £2,500 for riding his jet ski at nine-times the speed limit on Southampton Water, the marine equivalent of driving 230mph in a 30mph zone. On 22 April – when Cunard’s ‘three Queens’ (QEII, QM2 and Queen Victoria) were in port, and which was therefore an exceptionally busy day on the water – Adam Robert Langdown, of Seacole Gardens, Southampton, rode his jet ski at high speed through the Eastern and Western Docks. Mr Langdown was cautioned by marine police before being allowed to proceed, but then broke the speed limit again by travelling at 48 knots, the equivalent of travell…

Hmmm, the fact that GMP have apologised makes me wonder whether they themselves now believe their actions were unlawful. Personally, I cannot see how it's unlawful if officers on the ground believed letting them go would cause alcohol related disorder, and I don't see how Amnesty would be able to prove otherwise in a court of law.

Police massage spend under fire Sussex Police has been criticised for its decision to spend thousands of pounds on a massage service for call centre staff. The force has invited tenders for a three-year contract to provide head massages at its bases in Lewes, Brighton and Haywards Heath. Sussex Police Federation said the contract, reportedly worth up to £10,000, was "outrageous". But the force said it relieved stress and had been used since November 2005. 'Relieves pressure' It said the current three-year contract had come to an end. Sussex Police employs about 400 staff at its call centres. Chairman of the Sussex Police Federation, Brian Stockham, said:…
