Source Police 'steal' valuables from cars in a lesson for drivers Officers in London are taking everything from handbags to satnavs, and leaving a note telling drivers their property is at a local police station. The scheme is being tried out in Richmond, south west London, which has a disproportionately high level of thefts from cars - up 40 per cent in a year. Police have been taking valuables from unlocked cars and leaving notes for owners in Richmond, London (file photo) Police from the area's Safer Neighbourhood teams are being told to look out for cars with open windows or doors. If they find valuables on display they will try to find the owner nearby, b…

Source A DIM-WITTED thief was arrested after he went for an interview at a supermarket he had raided just three days earlier. Dumb Simon Holden, 22, applied for a job as a shelf stacker at his local Asda despite having previously stolen from the store. The jobless crook secured an interview for the role — but was quickly rumbled by the manager. While Holden sat in his interview, bosses reviewed CCTV footage, which featured him escaping from the store with four boxes of lager. Fearing he had been found out, the prospective candidate fled the supermarket, in Colne, Lancs — only stopping to steal two more crates of booze. Holden was arrested hours later and ch…

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/I..._Is_Ineffective An internal police report has raised serious concerns about whether CCTV is being used effectively in the fight against crime. Have they got the wrong end of the stick? I always thought the cameras were there to prevent crime rather then catching those who would commit it. Most people who wish to do a criminal act would not do it under the watchful eye of a camera. So the figures we want to see is, how many crimes were done in a certain area before the camera was installed, and how many done now in the same spot after the installation of a camera. If figures were down by 50% then the cameras must be deemed a …

BOBBIES are walking the streets of Liverpool in the dead of night to make sure the door is firmly shut on burglars. Constables have been out around burglary hot-spots in Everton and Walton rattling door handles in the early hours of the morning to see which have been left unlocked. Over three nights this week they have tried more than 1,500 doors and found nearly 50 houses left wide open. And police chiefs have said Operation Handle will carry on until the public get the message and they can walk the streets without finding any open doors. Chief Insp Shaun Holland said: “It is amazing really that we have leafleted these streets to tell people they are living in a bu…
