Should Scottish amalgamate and become 1? I got asked this question in one of my interviews and i thought it was a interesting question. It has recently started with certain force areas joining the central application process, where you apply to the Scottish police college and not the individual force. Thought it would be a interesting read to see what people think (plus i got my final interview on Tuesday and it would be good to see other peoples views). Here is a link where certain senior officers where asked earlier in the year about it. http://www.journalonline.co.uk/News/1006404.aspx

The horrific gang assault, which is believed to have been partly videoed on CCTV, took place on a park bench on Wednesday night. The bench in Queen's Park on the outskirts of Bolton, Greater Manchester, has now been removed by police. Earlier a forensic team searched the area around it. The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Bolton magistrates court. The youngest is 13 and the eldest 17. Two brothers aged 17 and 16 were remanded in custody. The 13-year-old boy was remanded into local authority care and two 16-year-olds were granted bail. Rachael Walsh, defending, said the boys would all contest the allegations. They next appear at Bolto…

HMIC Press Release - The British model of policing must be nurtured IT is time to reassert the principles of the traditional British model of approachable, impartial and accountable policing based on minimum force for major public order events, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary says today. Introducing the second part of HMIC's review of policing protest, he warns that winning public order through tactics that appear to be unfair, aggressive or inconsistent risks losing public consent by damaging the reputation of the police service and individual officers alike. He stressed that the principles of the traditional model are well suited to handling the highly-…

Smuggler: Fidelis Ozouli was caught with £250,000 worth of cocaineA Nigerian drug smuggler who swallowed 67 packages of cocaine was caught after customs men noticed his bulging belly. Fidelis Ozouli was pulled to one side at Manchester Airport when officers became suspicious about his route to England from Switzerland. Customs men ordered an X-ray when they saw how bloated he was. They were amazed when it showed the amount of cocaine - enough to fill two bags of sugar - in his stomach. The cocaine was hidden inside scores of condoms and was 78 per cent pure, giving it a street value of £250,000. If just one of the packages had split, Ozouli would have died. The 2…

Ex-Tesco and Marks and Spencer employees are working as 'civilian investigators' on rape and murder cases - sparking fury among police detectives. There are fears trials could collapse and criminals walk free because of mistakes made by the investigators. The new workers have already been sent to interview rape victims and investigate murders after just six months training. It is the latest in a process of so-called 'workforce modernisation' schemes set up by cash-strapped police forces across Britain to save money and free up detectives from 'routine duties'. Worrying: Detectives say using civilian investigators, rather than police, to conduct interviews could have '…

Way, Knutsford, had pleaded guilty to 10 counts of sexual activity with the 15-year-old pupil in February. Manchester Minshull Crown Court heard the affair was so intense she paid for him to have a tattoo of her initials. The teacher, who taught at a school in Tameside, Greater Manchester, was his learning mentor, the judge heard. Having first met the boy in September 2008, the pair began communicating via Facebook. Their friendship soon turned into a passionate affair, Jennifer Birch, prosecuting, told the court. "She drove them to a retail park and they participated in consensual sexual intercourse." They were eventually told to leave by a security guard who s…
