Front line police services could be slashed next year as the force faces a cash crisis. Up to £6m of cuts and savings has been drawn up by Hampshire Police Authority to protect services over the coming year. But number crunchers predict a Government spending squeeze and staff pay increases above 2.5 per cent will threaten future services. Financing the rising cost of the new police headquarters in Southampton, now £38m, has also put a strain on the budget. The biggest savings will come by banking £1.5m of pay during the time civilian staff vacancies remain unfilled. http://www.policeoracle.com/news/ACPO-On-T...viour_21923.htm “The police service is committed to tackling anti-social behaviour in our communities, but it is a job that cannot be overcome by the police alone. Police, local councils and communities. seems to be a good plan if it works but kids our way take no notice of pcso. only police officers do they take notice of our way.

Can't see this elsewhere, so will post it here... from my local paper Published Date: 06 February 2010 Police recruits may have to volunteer for up to two years before they can be signed up for full service as part of a huge cost-cutting drive. Senior police officers have been considering proposals to change the rules so only people who have served as specials can join the force. Would-be officers may also be asked to fund their own training while also spending a minimum of up to 300 hours on the beat for free. News of the plans emerged as police called on more people to volunteer to safeguard their neighbourhoods during National Specials Weekend. The charge for unp…

ACPO lead on anti-social behaviour Assistant Chief Constable Simon Edens said: "The police service is committed to tackling anti-social behaviour in our communities, but it is a job that cannot be overcome by the police alone. Police, local councils and communities must continue to work together to ensure people acting anti-socially are dealt with appropriately. "We know that in many cases the police are the only 24-hour, 365 day per year resource that the public can turn to and this new booklet will hopefully assist those who may have concerns about anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhoods as to the practical steps they can take to report such cases. "As such, e…

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...ir-uniform.html Police in Greater Manchester have become the first in the country to wear name badges on their uniform. All 8227 officers employed by the force, along with the 4128 civilian staff, have been told they must display the magnetic badges which spell out their name and rank. The move is part of a customer service drive to improve the force's image with the public. Plain clothes officers will also have to wear the badges – similar to tags worn by shop staff – but police working undercover or wearing riot gear will be exempt. At present police can only be identified by the number on their uniform. The Metro…

A wealthy businessman dubbed Teflon Don over his alleged links to gangland murders is under police guard in hospital after a bungling assassin apparently struck at his home. Arran Coghlan, 38, was detained by armed police after a known gangster was stabbed to death in his bathroom yesterday afternoon. The victim, Stephen "Aki" Akinyemi, 36, suffered fatal knife wounds — despite wearing a stab-proof vest. Coghlan, who dialled 999 as Akinyemi lay dying, also suffered serious knife injuries to his upper body in the 2pm attack. This morning, officers were swarming around Coghlan's £2million converted chapel in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, where he sleeps in a bed shaped li…

http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/blackpoo...jobs.6058199.jp Police chiefs stress frontline policing will not be affected as "efficiency savings" will be made rather than axing bobbies on the beat if they are doing 10m cuts with job losses i can see in time less police on the streets and doing the jobs of the staff they got rid of with having to take on more work to plug the resultant gap. thats my opinon as a mop.

A team of money launderers collected £24million of 'dirty' drug deal money in shopping trollies and Special K cereal boxes in just eight months on behalf of gangland bosses. The 13-strong gang included 10 Iraqi Kurd asylum seekers, all of whom came to the country illegally in the backs of lorries ten years ago. But incredibly only one of the ten Kurds now faces deportation. The story of the lucrative scam can now be told as reporting restrictions have only just been lifted on the case - one of the biggest to ever come to court. Brothers Aravin Ali, 35, and Ali Rawand, 36, operated a seemingly legitimate foreign exchange bureau, Ravin, on London's Edgware Road. An i…
