Devon and Cornwall Police to shed 180 officer jobs One hundred and eighty police officer posts are to be lost in Devon and Cornwall as part of budget cuts. Devon and Cornwall Police authority voted to raise the police's share of council tax by 5%, about £7 a year. But the force says public spending cuts mean it still needs to save £14m over the next three years. It expects to cut 60 front line police officer jobs in the coming financial year and in the two years after that a further 120 posts are to go. It is vital that the public judge our success by the service they receive and not the number of officers we have Chief Constable Stephen Otter The reductio…

Ambulance drivers face the sack if they ignore a 'ludicrous' diktat that they must not drive too fast to emergencies. NHS bureaucrats have decided that paramedics who go as little as 10mph above the speed limit should face formal disciplinary action. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...l#ixzz0eKtyI00p I wonder if this will soon be under Police rules too. :clapping: Not allowed above 30 MPH in residential areas, and 70 MPH on motorways, i do hope the crims will keep this in mind, and slow down when ordered to do so.

We tracked him down to Greenock, Inverclyde, yesterday where he owns a flat near Morton's football ground. Hemphill, who now works as a joiner, had spent 10 years on the run in Scotland after being accused of molesting the teenager in 1994. But he was arrested in 2004 after being tracked down living under a false name. In March 2005, he was jailed for five years in New Jersey. After serving part of his sentence, Hemphill has now been deport…

A father who stabbed a thug threatening his family with an axe won a crucial victory for homeowners yesterday after the government's top lawyer failed to have him jailed. Kenneth Blight, 51, walked free from the Appeal Court after the country's most senior judge threw out an application from the Attorney General to increase his original sentence. Baroness Scotland QC pursued the father-of-three after he was given a two-year suspended jail term for stabbing drug-crazed teenager Andrew Nelson in a bid to protect his partner and children in their home. She argued the original sentence was 'unduly lenient'. But in a stinging judgment that could signal greater rights f…

Rise in council tax given to Lancs 8 pence a week increase and yet most of the comments seem to oppose this move. I agree that the financial crisis puts the pinch on everyone but this looks like a great way to offer that re-assurance that the public want. The money has to come from somewhere. Discuss...
