A driver has landed before a judge for reversing his car into his own driveway. Maxwell Cannon, 25, was booked by the police after they saw him stationary on the zigzag markings of a pedestrian crossing outside his home in Ellerbank Road, in Harrington, near Workington. He told them that he was waiting to reverse into his drive but explained that he had to wait until there was a gap in the nose-to-tail rush-hour traffic streaming out of town on the A596. A police force has been ridiculed for using BMX bikes in a bid to bond with hoodies and 'look cool'. Leicestershire Constabulary has been accused of 'making a mockery of policing' by using the blue and white bikes, complete with force logos and stunt pegs. Officers claim the bike, which is designed to be used for tricks and jumps, helps build a rapport with young people and could assist in pursuits through urban back streets. But the force has been criticised for trying to impress children at skateparks instead of fighting crime and tackling anti-social behaviour. A soldier clocked driving at twice the speed limit on the M40 has been spared a driving ban so he can serve in Afghanistan. Kameron Edmondson was travelling at 143mph in his Ford Focus ST when police, in an unmarked Subaru Impreza, spotted him. The 20-year-old Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer believed he was being followed by the super-charged motor and accelerated. A Gwent Police officer who was part of a British paedophile ring which swapped images of child abuse has been jailed for a year at Newport Crown Court. Det Con Michael Thomas, a 40-year-old married father-of-two, was convicted of distributing, making and possessing indecent images earlier this month. Thomas, of Port Talbot, was one of six men arrested after an international operation involving the FBI. He was ordered to sign the sex offenders register. Thomas, who was suspended by Gwent Police following his arrest, was also disqualified from working with vulnerable children. Police fear Nicky Ayers may have been killed in a Merseyside gangland vendetta Nicky Ayers, 46, was killed in the early hours of Thursday morning after visiting his daughter in West Derby. A man who tried to murder a 60-year-old woman in an Aberdeen park during an attempt to abduct and rape her two young granddaughters has been jailed. Ryan Yates admitted stabbing the woman as the girls, aged eight and two, fled. Yates, 30, carried out the attack last October, days after he was released for an assault with a sexual element. He was jailed for a minimum of 10 years at the High Court in Glasgow. The judge said Yates may never be released. The victim said he was a menace to society.
