Hey everyone! Thanks for having me on this forum, I do hope to complete he application form to become a special soon so that i can go through the process of becoming one. A bit about myself to start off: My names Josh and I'm 19 years old, currently studying at DMU doing a computing HND. Over the summer ill have a lot of free time (4 and a half months to be precise) so I thought I would do something useful by applying! I'm finding it pretty hard to find a job around Leicester and have applied for many different job positions. Even with my 10 GCSEs and 5 A levels. I have a first aid and lifeguard qualification too. Just wondering how many house most specials do? A…

Hi all, Just thought I would introduce myself to the Leicestershire Constabulary forum! My names Tom, I'm 17 and I hope to join Leicestershire as a special as soon as I can, my overall ambition is to become a reg but with the current economic situation, I cant see recruitment coming up anytime soon! So I hope by becoming a special, I will not only be putting something back into the community and making Leicestershire safer but I hope it will give me an insight into the exciting and varied work of a police officer. I would love to hear from serving Leicestershire specials on the work they do and how they find being a special! And also what to expect fromthe recruitment p…

I have just been looking through this: http://www.leics.police.uk/files/careers/specials_handbook.pdf And on the FAQ's it says: Q. Is there a fitness test? A. No, there is no fitness test. However, to undertake police duties a reasonable level of fitness is required. Is this correct? Not that I have a problem with taking a fitness test, I just thought that there was a fitness test for the Leicestershire Specials? Thanks in advance Tom

Hi everyone! :D I recently found out that I passed my assessment - hurrah! - so (assuming I pass my fitness test on 28 March!) I'll hopefully be on the training course beginning in May. Anyone else expecting to be on it? Really looking forward to getting started now, so fingers crossed everything goes OK! Good luck to everybody else who's applying! :D

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-12674211 Children out in Leicester on school days could be stopped by police as part of an anti-truancy campaign. From this week patrols will challenge young people and those without a good reason for their absence will be taken back to school. They will also notify the Education Welfare Service who may take the further steps, including legal action. Despite improvements last year, Leicester still has some truancy rates which are above the national average.# Pc Ian Edwards, youth involvement officer for the city, said: "I think sometimes youngsters fail to see the seriousness of being absent from school and it's vit…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-12638969 The number of fatal and serious accidents on Leicestershire and Rutland roads has fallen by 40% over the past 10 years, new figures have revealed. Leicestershire Police said 351 people were killed or injured in 2010 compared with 577 a decade earlier. The force said the latest figures also showed a reduction of more than 50% in the number of children killed or seriously injured in the same period. Rutland County Council said speed cameras had helped improve road safety. Slight injury road casualties fell by more than 25% from 4,357 to 3,161. Hey! Have only just discovered this forum so this is my first post... Was anyone else at the Leicester Specials assessment day on Sat 26 Feb (afternoon)? I was a bag of nerves so didn't catch anyone's names, sorry! I was also at the Specials recruitment seminar at FHQ on (I think) 18 January. Anyway, I wish everyone applying the best of luck!

Good afternoon ladies and gents, I've been looking through these forums for a while now, and though it's time to sign up and say hello! I will be attending the Special recruiting seminar on the 16th of Feb at Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre. I have been looking into joining the police force since an incident I was involved in a year ago, however due to the 'freeze' on recruitment, obviously I couldn't have picked a worse time, given the current climate re the public sector. My main reason for wanting to join the police force, and I'm sure this sounds cliche, is simply to put back into the community by putting my time and effort in to make Leicester that little bit safer …

Just had my letter in the post this morning! I passed the interview round! Only got 47% on written test, but everything else apparently was dandy : ) Anyone else attending this date? What did you make of the assessments? easier/harder than expected? May I just say this forum is incredible! Every question is answered! Real community of helpfulness! Rogue out.

I've been toying with the idea of becoming a Special for a while, but have finally decided to apply. Thought I should say hello as a result, and thank you for all the helpful advice I've gleaned from the forum so far, as a lurking, unregistered visitor I'm planning to attend the "recruiting information seminar" tonight (18th Jan, '11) at Enderby too. Also, a cheeky question if anyone reads this in time - it states on the website that "parking is limited and available only in adjoining streets", although from Google Maps it appears the only adjoining road is the B4114, which splits into 4 lanes just outside the entrance - probably not the best place to park... is there r…
