Hi Everyone, I know there has been a lot of discussion on these forums about the best type of boots to go for, Magnums, Altberg, Danner, Lowa to name but a few - so I wont start another thread about that I will be starting training soon, and do have a few queries about the boots though: Q1. Waterproof or non-waterproof? - got my eye on some of the lightweight, breathable boots made of a leather/nylon, but which are not waterproof Q2. Regarding the £50 boot allowance - when your boots have worn out and its time to replace them, do you get another 50 squid? Q3. I understand that the weekend training will be in uniform - do you need the boots for training? Any :D …

Received letter today to inform me that i will start training in March. Anybody else received confirmation yet? Adam.

Hi all I've got my fitness test soon which I am not to worried about as I'm quite an active guy, but if I was to be successful, what happens next. I'm sure I read that there is an interview but i don't know. Please help as I like to plan as far forward as possible. Thanks

Just received a letter from Leicestershire Constabulary to inform me that my Application form has been successful. It explains that the next stage is to attend an assessment Process and Fitness Test. What exactly will the assessment process involve? thanks alot Adam.

Hi all, I am waiting to start my training in may (after many set-backs) and was wondering who else is starting then and if someone could let me in on what it's like, any insite would be greatly appreciated. Hi all, Thought I'd make a post here as you all seem like a bunch of friendly folk! I'm hoping to be sending off my Special Constable application forms tomorrow to Leicestershire Police HQ, and am just wondering what the turnaround times are like for the entire process, from application to appointment on the streets? I.e, how many days/weeks is it before I hear back about my application, when are assessments, and how long is it before you're in there doing your training etc? Hi there, I was talking to a coleague who is a SC with Northants police and he we saying that it would be a good idea to buy a long-handled handcuff key as the one that they issue you with is very small and fiddly, when you come to use it for real. It got me thinking, is their any other kit I may need to buy in addition or subtitution to the kit I'll be issued with?

Hi all! I am thinking of becoming a Special and was wondering when the medical takes place within the recruitment process (I assume this includes the eye sight test) or do you need to prove proof of your eyesight at the application stage? Any help would be great Thanks, Gemma

Having waited six months since applying for BTP in the summer, I decided to put my specials application in for Leicestershire earlier this week. Well, today I got a letter saying I had past the paper sift and that I should have an assessment centre mid-April! So happy I past the papersift - I've really got to prepare for the assessment now! *edited so it reads better!

I was wondering if there is a maximum amount of hours that a special can put in per week/month. I intend to put in at least 1 full shift a week or even book holiday from work to be able to put in a full week.
