http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-12204929 Victims of crime can make appointments to see police officers in a scheme piloted by the Cambridgeshire force. The initiative, which begins on Monday, aims to free up officers to spend more time patrolling the streets. Currently, police visit victims of crime at their home a few days after a non-emergency incident has been reported. Under the new scheme, victims can book an hour-long appointment with an officer at one of four police stations. The stations taking part are Histon, Thorpe Wood, March and Huntingdon. Deputy Ch Cons John Feavyour said: "By giving victims an allotted time and place to go, offic…

Just wandering if anyone can help with the following... Is their a specific night specials must attend as I work shifts so this is not always possible. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12189518 Almost 2,500 drivers were caught using a hand-held mobile phone while on the move in Cambridgeshire during 2010. Fixed penalty notices were given to 2,498 drivers and each was fined £60 with three points on their licence, police figures reveal. There were 2,223 prosecutions for the offence in 2009. Pc Tony Barrios said it was disappointing that the number of motorists caught using a hand-held mobile while driving had increased. "It only takes a few seconds distraction to cause a collision with fatal consequences," he said. "We take these offences extremely seriously and will continue with our robust enforcement of the la…

Published: 03/12/2010 07:57 - Updated: 03/12/2010 09:00 Budget cut forces recruitment drive for police specials More than 140 special constables will plug the gaps in Cambridgeshire’s frontline policing as savage cuts loom. As the force braces itself to slash £30 million from its £130 million budget, it is hoping David Cameron’s ‘Big Society’ idea may help shore up policing services. The force has announced it is looking to increase the numbers of specials by a third. Cambridgeshire county councillor Geoffrey Heathcock, former chairman of the Cambridge city local police consultative committee, said: “There was absolutely no substitute f…

At the last 'Meet the AC' event, the contribution of Duty Sheet to recognising the hours SCs give up for the force in the community was discussed. The jump in hours recorded is very impressive! However, I was wondering what Serving Specials think about Duty Sheet? What do you like? Is it good for organisation and bringing more cohesion to your respective teams? Where could it be better or what would you change/add/remove? I personally think there are still a few technical hiccups with it. I personally don't like how many regular officers still don't have access to Duty sheet to see what Specials they have at their disposal. However, there are still many really good…

Due to start in June and just wondered what to expect from the uniform. I dont see many now walking the streets in shirt and tie. Has this now changed in favour of the more modern goretex type t-shirts etc? Also do you get a proper uniform fitting? In the prison service we tend to have to look after ourselves. Nothing fits properly as the sizing is awful and items are always the cheapest you can find. I always have to order a size up from normal clothes in order to have a half decent fit. Still fits like a bag of * but atleast i can still get it on after a wash.

Hey All, The Cambs 'massive' seem to be a pretty small group on here but just wondering if there's anyone else on here who is due to be starting (fingers crossed!) in June? I still have my medical (next week) and my fitness (argh - next Monday!) but recruitment have said that I am on the June intake. Have recently sent off my requests for which area I want to be posted in (come on Cambridge!!) and am just hoping that they don't move the start date... especially as I have just told my employer!
