The officer, who has not been named, was hit when one of the men opened fire in Kingsdown Avenue at about 2200 BST on Friday. His injuries are not said to be life-threatening. Three men were later arrested. The incident is being investigated by Trident, the Met unit dealing with gun crime in the black community. The fearsome reputation of riot police comes from their lack of toilet breaks, a top cop claimed today. Police are demanding to be rotated every 45 minutes when supervising riots and demonstrations - so that they can go for a toilet break. Members of the West Midlands Police Federation complained in a survey of a 'lack of comfort breaks' during pre-planned public order duties. Police chiefs fear the lack of loo breaks is behind complaints from members of the public of 'incivility, impoliteness and intolerance'. Bryan Higgins, lead on health and safety for the force's federation, said officers cannot carry out duties effectively when they are desperate to use the toil…

Two London MPs want the age limit for an automatic jail sentence for using a knife to threaten or endanger life to be lowered from 18 to 15. http://www.thisislon...de-under-18s.do Why stop at 15, a half heated attempt to show they are doing something, but i`m guessing most of these who create the law do not know to much of what goes on out in the streets. http://hamptonroads.com/2011/04/12yearold-caught-knife-suffolk-school http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2013781/Police-confiscated-1-000-deadly-weapons-children-school.html Maybe start the number at 8 years old.

A crook was caught red-handed with a stolen laptop – after the computer itself turned informer. The £900 Apple MacBook Air contained hidden spy software that tracked its exact location – and even took pictures of the criminal's son when he opened the lid. The information was then emailed to the Cheltenham store the computer was stolen from, allowing managing director Tony Briscombe to tell police exactly where it was – even with a map. When officers turned up at 48-year-old Daniel Fry's home in New Milton, Hampshire, 100 miles away, they were even able to match the wallpaper in his living room with that in the background of the photograph. Mr Briscombe said: 'We would n…

A student has been jailed for a year after he was found guilty of drunkenly hurling sticks at riot police while protesting against government spending cuts. Francis Fernie, 20, has just sat his A-levels and had been given a conditional offer to study science at Sheffield Hallam University. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2012647/Drunk-student-hurled-sticks-police-officers-anti-fees-demo-jailed-year.html#ixzz1RYGu5QHr Some sense from a judge, , mind you me never being happy would have preferred five years, but one should take into account how his criminal record will impact on the rest of his life. I suppose a job in the police is out?

Slow drivers are one of the biggest dangers on the road and should be treated like speeders, a report says today. Nearly a third of motorists have had a 'near miss' caused by someone travelling slowly. These drivers create such frustration that six out of ten motorists feel stress rise and about half are tempted to 'undertake'. It has led to calls for a crackdown on slow drivers including the setting of minimum limits or even 'slow speed' cameras. Transport Department figures show 143 accidents a year are caused directly by slow drivers. The report from insurer Confused.com coincides with the Government's deadline today for police and councils to publish prosecution and …

A Police squad set up by Boris Johnson to tackle bike thefts has arrested more than 200 suspects in its first year. The 40-strong Cycle Task Force is being credited with a three per cent reduction in the number of thefts across London, down 709 to 22,536 bikes in the year to May 31 compared with the same 12-month period a year earlier. Met figures show that Westminster is the worst for bike thefts with 1,788 crimes, followed by Islington (1,565), Hackney (1,518) and Camden (1,451). Bexley has the fewest - 124 were reported to police. TfL, which funds the task force out of its £116 million annual cycling budget, said 75 per cent of the arrests ended in a "positive outcome"…

Charlie Gilmour, son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, has been jailed for 16 months for a rampage at a student fees protest in central London. Over the top sentence? just about right? Or my views ? two years minimum. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-14150800 All in all the sentencing was way more then i expected and the fact he was "intoxication by drink and drugs" makes matters only worse, i would not had brought that point up if i were his lawyer.

More than 34,000 police jobs will be lost as part of Government cuts, inspectors have ruled. Up to 1,800 community support officers and 16,100 police staff will also go as part of an overall reduction of 14%, the study of 43 forces across England and Wales said. Yet again prisoners have escaped. This time an armed gang stopped the G4S vehicle and broke the prisoners free. http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/video/Manchester-Prisoners-On-The-Run-Masked-And-Armed-Gang-Attack-Jail-Van/Video/201107316032453?DCMP=News-search-sslc&lid=VIDEO_16032453_ManchesterPrisonersOnTheRun:MaskedAndArmedGangAttackJailVan&lpos=searchresults I dont know if G4S operate down south but up here they are everywhere. Im gonna stick my neck on the line here and have a rant, they are a private security firm and they stink. Without doubt they employ a lot of trustworthy people who do an outstading job in very dangerous situations, but they are runni…
