http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23974044-police-helicopter-noise-blights-our-lives-say-west-end-residents.do .. Air patrol: Residents in central London claim police helicopters are being used for trivial reasons West End residents say their lives are being blighted by the near constant drone of police helicopters. They claim the use of the Met Air Support Unit had now reached intolerable levels and that it is being used as a matter of course for trivial reasons of "dubious operational necessity". The residents have written to the Metropolitan Police Authority to complain about the noise and are asking for it to establish rules for the use of helic…

According to the Mail on Sunday, Theresa May will announce tomorrow (Monday) that SOCA is to be replaced/rebranded as the National Crime Agency and targeted on serious crime, drug smuggling and illegal immigration. My link Aside from the fact that this is already SOCA's mission, is this the next major step in crime fighting or more re-arranging of the deckchairs on the Titanic? Does this mean the much vaunted "Border Police Force within a refocused SOCA" will, in reality, simply be a function of a renamed and less top-heavily managed SOCA continuing to liaise (perhaps more effectively) with UKBA & HMRC rather than the frontline force promised in the run up to the e…

Now it's been a while since I've done statistics, but sure "In total police stopped 88,629 motorists, of whom 5,373 or 6.06% tested positive, refused or failed a breath test, compared to 5.6% last June - an 8% rise." is incredibly misleading?! The 8% increase they are touting is an 8% increase of 5.6%. In actual fact, the increase was 0.46% isn't it, which means that statistically it's barely even worth mentioning, nevermind a shock? Or have I misinderstood the article? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14363131

http://www.kentpolfe....uk/hacking.pdf "It is impossible to turn on the television or open a newspaper at the moment without seeing the police service being accused of the most serious wrongdoing. Much of this criticism is lazy, ill‐informed, and when you dig into the detail is just plain wrong. Good read!! Brought to you by Kent Police Fed.@KentPolFed

I don't know whether many people have seen the new judgment of the Administrative Court in R (Chief Constable of Greater Manchester) v City of Salford Magistrates' Court and Hookway? We've certainly had frantic emails flying around at work. Basically, as everyone knows, the time you can keep a suspect in detention is severely limited. Ordinarily, it's 24 hours, then 36 hours if authorised by a superintendent, or 96 hours if a magistrates' court grants a warrant of further detention. Since the inception of PACE it has been accepted by everyone, the police, prosecution, defence and courts, that this time period is paused whilst a person is on bail. The judgment basicall…

Forcing a detainee to bend over while seated can lead to death, a study into restraint techniques suggests. Researchers found that the hold massively cut lung capacity. The technique is not used in prisons but researchers say it might be used in some mental health or care homes, or by private security contractors. The Ministry of Justice and the UK Border Agency are reviewing restraint techniques approved for use on aircraft. Police are currently investigating why an Angolan man, Jimmy Mubenga, died shortly after being restrained on his deportation flight last year. The circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Mubenga, 46, remain unclear. He collapsed on a plane at …

Michelle Brown (born 26/08/1973) of no fixed address was jailed for five months at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Thursday 28 July 2011. She pleaded guilty to theft at the same hearing. http://www.gmp.police.uk/mainsite/pages/B56021E5C9C5DB34802578DC0062E173 Three days, is that not unusual?

The operation, which was launched on Wednesday 8 June, is tackling crime against people and property, and aims to achieve significant long term reductions in robbery, burglary and violent crime. http://www.policeoracle.com/news/5000-Arrested-In-Operation-Target_36510.html Link to Met site not working. I can see the look on the desk Sargent's face if you brought 5000 people in for questioning.

FIFTY of Burnley’s most prolific thieves were visited by police as part of a major burglary crackdown which led to a dramatic reduction in offences. Officers focused activity in ‘hot spot’ areas including Gannow, Rosegrove, Duke Bar and Harold Street. As well as visiting known offenders to warn them about their behaviour, police issued crime prevention and home security advice to residents. In addition, more than 1,000 leaflets were handed out to homes, urging people to keep their windows and doors locked. The crackdown, dubbed Operation Fortress, led to 34 fewer burglaries being reported in June, compared to the same month in the previous year – a reduction o…
