A student who has high hopes of rising up the Tory party has been convicted of stealing uniforms - from a police station. He used his Conservative Party membership card to flick the lock at Chard Police Station, in Somerset, and chanted 'your security is s***' when police tried to arrest him.Joshua Bonehill-Paine, 18, said he broke into the building and took the outfit, including body armour, baton and handcuffs, to keep warm after he was thrown out of his hotel. He then lashed out and assaulted an officer. Yeovil Magistrates' Court heard that the former public schoolboy turned up drunk at the station at 2am on March 11, where he cheekily asked if he could have a lift h…

A Metropolitan Police dog is recovering after suffering a fractured skull when rioters pelted officers with missiles in north London. Obi, a three-year-old German shepherd, was on frontline duties in Tottenham on 6 August when he was injured. His handler, PC Phil Wells, said they came under "heavy bombardment" with bottles, bricks and petrol bombs being thrown, and a brick hit Obi. PC Wells said Obi had been signed off until he fully recovers. Riot officers were called to Tottenham High Road when trouble flared following a peaceful march in protest at the fatal shooting by police of Mark Duggan. Bleeding nostril PC Wells said: "We were on a stationary point when we …

David Cameron today vowed to make all 16-year-olds enlist in a non-military national service programme in a bid to solve the 'very modern problem of alienated, angry young people.' In his social fightback speech the Prime Minister announced he wanted to roll out the National Citizen Service scheme - currently undertaken by just a few thousand volunteers a year - as part of the government's effort to 'reclaim the country's streets'. The chief constable of Strathclyde Police is emerging as the front-runner to be the new Metropolitan Police Commissioner, the BBC has reported. Former Met assistant commissioner Stephen House applied for the job after Home Office officials contacted him, says BBC correspondent Danny Shaw. Sir Paul Stephenson stood down amid the phone-hacking scandal and applications to be his successor close on Wednesday. Acting Met deputy commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe is also seen as a contender. He is a former chief constable of Merseyside and was an inspector of constabulary before being drafted into the Met. Mr House, 54, was born in Glasgow and moved to London with his famil…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2026282/UK-riots-Croydon-street-destroyed-riots-looks-like-devastating-scene-Blitz.html We knew that rioters had torn through England's streets, willfully torching everything they could. But this shocking photograph shows the true cost of the thugs' actions. These are the faces of those whose lives have been left in tatters since thugs rampaged through London Road, in Croyon. The row of homes and independent shops look like they could have been injuries of the blitz, as they have been left as mere shells of their former selves, teetering on the brink of collapse. These are the human faces behind the havoc wreaked on London Road…

Foreign Chief 'Could Tackle Corruption' Thu, 21 July 2011Courtesy of: GUARDIAN UNLIMITEDThe prospect of an American police chief being brought in to run a British police force has been raised by the prime minister as part of a drive to root out police corruption. David Cameron told the Commons that rebuilding the leadership of Scotland Yard in the aftermath of the phone-hacking scandal had to be accompanied with a "broader look at the whole culture of policing in this country". He pre-empted the results of the inquiry by the former rail regulator, Tom Winsor, now under way into police careers, by announcing that he wants to open up the senior ranks of …

Sir Hugh Orde denies Theresa May riot claim Police, rather than MPs, devised the "more robust" approach that restored calm after four nights of rioting in England, a senior officer says. Association of Chief Police Officers president Sir Hugh Orde said these tactics were employed because more police officers were made available. Home Secretary Theresa May had said she ordered every UK police chief to cancel all staff leave to deal with the riots. But Sir Hugh said she had "no power whatsoever" to make such an order. Meanwhile, 68-year-old Richard Mannington Bowes, who was critically injured in an attack as he tried to stamp out a fire during riots in Ealing, has died…

Source The Herald The work of the VRU is certainly worth looking at, as is the work that is done day-in day-out by the rank and file on the ground. On that note, DC might want to reflect on the fact that Scotland has 1 police officer for every 300 population whereas England and Wales has 1 for every 380. If DC wants equivalence north and south in terms of presence he should increase numbers by 40,000 officers (isn't the figure is actually falling?). 40,000 officers would of course be more than enough to stop a few riots.

A bungling burglar jailed for breaking into a hospital was snared after leaving his bail notice at the scene of the crime. Prolific burglar Daniel Garvey, 21, of no fixed abode, broke into an office at Salford Royal Hospital through a roof tile. He trashed the office and stole items and cash worth £1,000 and caused £2,000 worth of damage. Police were able to identify Garvey by a bail notice from Salford Magistrates Court he had left in the room, along with his blood and fingerprints. An appeal was put out for his arrest and he was captured as he attempted to steal from Manchester University just weeks later. Members of staff at the Samuel Alexander building became suspi…

They keep getting younger.... "Police records have shown a boy aged nine was arrested for drink driving. The youngster, from Cumbria, was breathalysed and taken into police custody. But when officers discovered his age they were forced to release him without charge as he was too young to be held accountable for his actions. Safety campaigners have since demanded action to curb juvenile car crime. The child, who has not been named, was just one of thousands of under 18s arrested in the north of England over the past two years. These included four 11-year-olds and a ten-year-old arrested in the Northumbria force area for car theft, and seven 12-year-olds arrested in C…
