The last few days has pretty much brought me to the end of my tether. I am absolutely sick and bloody tired of the media/press in this crap country being allowed to print what they want with complete impunity. I have not had the misfortune to be directly involved in the policing of the riots (that's what they are, although not one single charge of riot is ever likely to be brought), but I am painfully aware that it is all but impossible to discharge our duties at such times for fear of falling prey to this sort of irresponsible reporting. See here The link on the Daily Telegraph website uses the phrase "rough justice", clearly implying that the officers involved in thi…

12 August 2011 Last updated at 16:21 Mark Duggan death: IPCC 'may have misled journalists' The police watchdog said there was no evidence Mr Duggan had fired at police The police watchdog admitted it may have misled journalists into believing that police shooting victim Mark Duggan fired at officers before he was killed. Mr Duggan, 29, was shot by officers last Thursday in Tottenham. His death sparked the initial riots in London which were followed by disorder in other English cities. The Independent Police Complaints Commission later released a statement to make it clear that Mr Duggan did not fire a gun at police. Ballistic tests found that a bullet which lodg…

I was just watching the BBC Parliament channel just now... with the opening of parliament and watched both the Prime Minister David Cameron's speech and the Home Secretary Theresa May's speech. I was a bit flabbergasted at Theresa may's insistance that Police Budget cuts will go ahead as planned. She dodged repeated questions on the Police Budget issue, where MP's were questioning the need to increase Police presence on the streets in a permanent sense, and not just in a temporary capacity. i.m.h.o. if the UK Government can manage to bail out Greece's horrendous debt, then I think we can afford a small increase in Police Budget funding to provide more full-time front l…

National police procurement hub goes live Best laid plans of mice and NPIA By Paul Kunert The National Police Procurement Hub goes live today with coppers in Lincolnshire the first to implement the "Amazon" styled e-commerce platform. The portal set up by ProcServe with the backing of the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), allows fuzz to buy IT, body armour and vehicles from 500 suppliers – though it was unable to list them. This is the first phase of the roll-out, with all 43 forces in England and Wales due to be using the system by June 2012. Government spending cuts means the police service needs to make savings of £545m by the end of fiscal 2014 an…

http://www.bbc.co.uk...ingham-14488901 A bereaved father's plea for calm in Birmingham helped to quieten tensions in the area, the chief constable of West Midlands Police has said. Tariq Jahan made an appeal for calm after his son and two more men were killed when hit by a car in Winson Green early on Tuesday. Haroon Jahan, 21, Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir, 31, died as they protected property in Winson Green. Police have been given more time to question a 32-year-old murder suspect. West Midlands Police was granted a 12-hour extension, until about 16:00 BST on Thursday, to question the man who was held on suspicion of murder. 'Powerful and generous' Chief Const…

For 30 years it has been used to test the fitness of officers who police riots and other outbreaks of serious public disorder. The so-called 'shield run' involves officers covering a distance of 500 metres in less than two minutes, 45 seconds while wearing full riot gear and carrying a shield. But when Inspector Diane Bamber, 51, failed to meet the time limit, she claimed she had been left humiliated. She brought a sex and age discrimination case against her force, Greater Manchester Police, and now stands to win up to £30,000 after an employment tribunal ruled in her favour. The landmark case has opened the door for thousands of other women officers to claim payout…

A HELICOPTER had to make an emergency landing on Foleshill Road last night when a crash left a police officer seriously injured. Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance made two attempts to land in car parks near Cash’s Lane, Foleshill, before landing in the car park of Halfords, on the corner of Harnall Lane West just after 7pm. A police car, which was responding to an emergency call, collided with another car at the junction of King George’s Avenue at around 6.30pm. Firefighters had to cut the top off the police car to free the driver – a woman aged 37. She suffered serious head injuries in the accident and was taken to University Hospital, Walsgrave i…
