A Kent police inspector has been found guilty of drink-driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Dione Mayfield, 32, was given a 12-month community order and disqualified from driving for two years at Maidstone magistrates. Mayfield, of Rainham, Kent, was suspended as a temporary inspector following the crash in Rainham on 25 September 2009. She had denied drink driving and a charge of failing to stop. Mayfield was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. She agreed to take a drink-driving rehabilitation course and to pay £1,000 costs. Mayfield was working at the force headquarters in Maidstone at the time of the crash and is currently suspended from duty…

A scheme which will see street pastors patrol Oxford to help out late-night revellers is to get under way. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/8541573.stm Intresting devolpment, first we have an officer saying prayer will help cut crime, now we have the Church sending volunteers to help people deal with any issues. Do Police Officers welcome people like this when patrolling during boozy nights?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-15518615 This thread isn't so much about the story itself, but the absurdity of the fact it's being reported. I really don't understand the press' continued obsession with the Taser. If this was CS, it'd never be reported, if it was a baton strike, it'd never be reported. Reading the article, there's most likely more to this story than just the use of Taser, but the BBC isn't the only news organisation that will jump on any story with even the slightest mention of Taser. So why do you think this is? Is the public's perception of Taser vastly different to the Police's? Is it just a case of the Public getting used to Ta…

BBC News item The end of summertime has seen the usual flurry of mistakes - clocks being put forward instead of back, people failing to lie in and getting up too early.. and of course changing ALL the time pieces in the house - the mantle shelf clock, the cooker, the central heating timer, the alarm clock... then there is the car too. For why? The sun came up this morning very close to when it did yesterday - if we could have seen it through the cloud that is. Good luck to the Russians in keeping the clocks where they should be. ROSPA tells us motoring accidents increase when the hour changes - so isn't it about time we stopped it? Does the change have any affect on…

A grandfather of five who is the longest serving Asian Met Police special sergeant has been awarded an MBE. Gurcharan Singh Dhesi, 62, of Lower Road, Belvedere, has served the borough for 38 years and in April, he was one of the officers deployed to the Mall in London to police the royal wedding. Another of his most memorable moments came in 1987 when he was forced to police members of his own community when worshippers turned violent in a Sikh temple in Belvedere. He said: "There was a power struggle during an election between two factions of Sikhs who were looking to run the temple. "I went there to pray and there was blood shed, it got out of hand and a system ha…

A police force yesterday announced it would be placing rainbow stickers on the front desks of police stations in order to make gay and lesbians feel more confident about reporting crime. North Wales police said it hoped that displaying the rainbow would make the gay, lesbian and transgender community feel safer and less apprehensive about talking to officers, especially if reporting homophobic offences. The rainbow, it said, was a globally recognised symbol of acceptance that would help reinforce the constabulary's commitment to equality and diversity. Pc Manus Sheridan, of North Wales Police Gay Police Association, said police officers came into contact with people of d…

CYCLE owners are being urged to lock up their bikes after two thieves were caught breaking in to a garage. The men, aged 18 and 23, had targeted the unlocked premises on Bleasdale Avenue, Staining, shortly before 3pm on Wednesday and had removed a blue gentleman's trek bicycle. However, they were seen by an off-duty special constable and the 18-year-old was arrested. He was later given a caution. The other man later presented himself at Blackpool police station and was arrested but released without charge. Full link http://www.lancashir...ves-apprehended
