A couple sparked a major police search after claiming their three-year-old daughter had gone missing so they could get a free lift home, according to police. More than 40 officers were drafted in after the pair, who were on a seaside daytrip to Hornsea, East Yorkshire, said the girl had disappeared from the beach. After a major hunt involving Humberside fire and rescue, Humber coastguard and volunteers from Hornsea inshore rescue, it emerged that the couple, who had travelled from Hull, did not even have a child with them. Humberside police said all available units were told to attend after it was reported that the youngster had been missing for five hours. Officers a…

The owner of a pit bull that attacked and injured five policemen has been acquitted of one of the charges against him. Symieon Robinson-Pierre, 25, was cleared of a charge of owning a dog dangerously out of control in a public place. Judge Mark Bishop ruled the attack on PC Marc Merritt happened in the owner's garden, which is private property. Mr Robinson-Pierre denies three offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act. PC Merritt was one of a group of officers who were raiding Mr Robinson-Pierre's house in Albert Square, Newham, on March 22. 'Not public area' Inner London Crown Court previously heard the police officers fled screaming after the dog attacked them during t…

A DRUG dealer was caught with nearly £500 of amphetamines in his car after parking in a police chief's parking space — as a joke. Daniel Burton, 43, and his accomplice Neil Collinson, 34, were in in the spot reserved for Superintendent Andy Foster outside Beverley Police Station, East Yorks. But when Supt Foster noticed the rusty white van and decided to search it, he and his officers discovered £490 of the illegal substance in the glove box. And dopey Burton, who has been caught with almost £14,500 of drugs over recent months, was this week jailed for three years at Hull Crown Court. Collinson’s barrister Paul Genney said: “They were going to Beverley Magistrates’ Co…

BBC should not hand over Duggan shooting footage - judge A judge has said the BBC does not have to give the Metropolitan Police unbroadcast footage of the aftermath of the shooting of Mark Duggan. The shooting sparked rioting in Tottenham, north London, last August, which later spread across the capital and to other parts of England. Police applied for the footage as part of their probe into Kevin Hutchinson-Foster, who is accused of supplying Mr Duggan with a gun, something he denies. The BBC had argued it was not relevant. Judge David Radford, at Snaresbrook Crown Court, said he was not satisfied the material had substantial value to the case. Mr Hutchinson-Foster…

Scotland's first female chief constable is to stand trial after she denied causing a head-on car crash which left another woman injured. Norma Graham, the Chief Constable of Fife Constabulary, was involved in a collision earlier this year as she drove to work at the force’s headquarters outside Glenrothes, Fife. She and another motorist, Hannah Shedden, were taken to hospital following the accident on the B922 Cluny to Kinglassie road. Her unmarked dark blue Audi Quattro and Miss Shedden’s Renault Clio were both badly damaged. Now Graham, 49, who earns £120,000 a year and is set to retire in three weeks’ time, faces a charge of careless driving over the incident. It is t…

http://news.uk.msn.c...d-by-force-cuts Two-fifths of a region's reported crime was not investigated last year following cuts to a police force's budget, it has said. Devon and Cornwall Police did not pursue more than 36,000 cases reported to them, representing 40% of all crime files which landed on officers' desks. Those investigations shelved by officers included 11,000 incidents of criminal damage, 4,000 thefts from vehicles and 3,700 burglaries, according to the figures released to the Western Morning News under the Freedom of Information Act. It said that, of the 91,532 crimes reported to Devon and Cornwall Police for the financial year 2011/12, 36,575 - or 40% - …
