http://www.carehome.co.uk/news/article.cfm/id/1566013/cqc-publish-guidance-cctv-cameras-care-homes I heard this story on radio on the way home and have looked it up on the internet but haven't seen or heard anything to suggest that the type of covert surveillance they are discussing will be covered by RIPA or indeed any other legal framework other than Care Quality Commission guidelines. I can understand why family members or even home managers would like surveillance in order to check on the care of loved ones and residents, although better management and supervision would go a long way towards handling care issues, however allowing the CQC to oversee it without …

It's being reported on the news that there is a Russian web-site that enables people on that site to 'look' into the bedrooms of young children through remote access on their computers, and also to gain access through baby monitors. I don't know how that would work on the monitors, but surely it's not that hard to prevent things happening through the computer. I admit that I am far from being I/T literate, but if someone were to turn the computer off at when they are not using it, OR simply place a piece of tack over the lens of the web-cam it would stop anyone being able to persue their sic activities. Maybe there is someone out there who could put right my very basic t…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30067669 The story goes on to mention the increase in assaults on staff during the last couple of years but the government thinks that has got nothing to do with staff cuts. The prison officers union has been criticising cuts for a long time but HMG continues to have a head in the sand approach failing to acknowledge that staff cuts could have anything to do with increased assaults, suicides or drug use. HMG now intends to fix the problem of assaults with harsher sentences rather than to deal with the core problem. That gives inmates a perverse incentive to really do the job properly as the worst that could happen is that they stay …

http://www.westbriton.co.uk/Police-refuse-detention-mental-health-patients/story-24518772-detail/story.html?ito=email_newsletter_westbriton - Pity all Chiefs don't take a stand along with the PCC's and refuse Sec 136 patients. I agree with Hogg entirely on this matter.

In the Met will go in the great property sell off. Big rumours about a nick in West London at the moment. They have announced there is a buyer for the Yard which will be revealed in a month. My question is why don't anyone reveal all and say which stations are going or staying? After all we work in them and will have to plan for change of location. The snobbery of it all. This amid a paedophile ring at Westminster many moons ago. OK politicians are human after all but why oh why do we cower and bow to them. Bring back the old commissioner "The Hammer" MCKNEE apparently from what I hear he would not have been too receptive to HMG's antics!
