Many might think that the DM was the main paper for ACAB members but came across a Daily Express story today which shows that in terms of the posters commenting, it too has its share of members of that august group - most of whom also seem to be UKIP supporters. I imagine a fair few are either motorists or the eponymous company directors from Essex types who OB stopped importing a load of waccy baccy or similar. I also wonder if they actually know that aside from its anti-Islam angle, CH is about as far from the pov of the typical DE reader (as least as exemplified by the comments) as its possible to be. Probably a daft thing for Wilts Police to have done but the tin foil…

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said an investigation into the discharge of the gun at a public event in October was continuing. A seven-year-old girl was hit in the lip by an empty cartridge after a rifle was accidentally fired into the ground. The IPCC said CCTV footage was being examined. Inspectors were concerned about significant delays in some child protection investigations A 16-year-old girl was held in police custody for almost two days without food or water, a report has found. An inspection of Nottinghamshire Police's child protection work by HM Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) found the teenager went without provisions for 44 hours. The girl was being detained under the Mental Health Act. The force said she was offered food and drink on several occasions but declined. 'Lack of awareness' HMIC carried out an inspection of the force's child protection work in September last year. Inspectors found significant delays in some child protecti…

Sean Price said he had spent about £50,000 on his defence so far A legal battle to recover £500,000 from the former chief constable of Cleveland Police has been dropped. The force had been trying to claw back salary and bonuses paid to Sean Price before he was sacked for gross misconduct in 2012. But Cleveland's police and crime commissioner said spiralling legal costs in the face of budget cuts meant a settlement was now the best option. The agreement will see Mr Price repay about £23,000. Mr Price became the first police chief to be sacked in 35 years when he was dismissed for lying about his role in the recruitment of the former police authority chairman's daugh…

Steve White, Police Federation: "The time for action is now" All front-line police in England and Wales should be offered Tasers in light of the increased terrorism threat, the head of the Police Federation says. Steve White said the devices would help protect against "dangerous people" who could be preparing to attack officers. "We've got to show our officers that we're taking the threat seriously," he told Radio 4's Today. But Christopher Salmon, a Welsh police and crime commissioner, said the move would be a mistake. Mr Salmon, Dyfed-Powys police and crime commissioner, said: "Routine arming with Tasers would be a mistake and counter to the traditions of British p…

Leicestershire Police said the restructuring would mean more police on the beat Continue reading the main story Police investigations in Leicestershire are being carried out by a dedicated unit rather than beat officers, as part of changes to working practices. The force said the new approach would allow local teams to focus on patrols, and issues like anti-social behaviour. A spokesperson confirmed most investigations would be dealt with by a "default" team, but said that did not rule out local officers being involved. Critics have raised concerns that fewer officers will be investigating crimes. The changes are part of Leicestershire Police's bid to reduce spending…
