More police to help children steer clear of web perverts Published Date: 13 August 2008 By ALAN RODEN Edinburgh Evening News MORE police officers and council workers are being trained to teach children across the Lothians how to look out for paedophiles on the internet. Today, around 40 extra officers and 15 council and voluntary sector workers were due to complete the course, in a move designed to boost the number of internet safety lessons that can be carried out in the region's schools. Images released of man sought following assault on police officer Police in Kingston have issued CCTV images of a man they wish to trace in connection with a serious assault on a bus. The incident took place on Friday 16 May 2008 on a route 85 bus between Putney and Kingston, some time between 2- 3am. A man punched a 25-year-old man in the face, causing him considerable injuries. The victim, who is a police officer and was off duty at the time, required medical treatment and it is said he will have to undergo dental work for some considerable time. Police have released a photograph of a man who escaped from Reading Crown Court today (14/3). Jason McInerney, aged 20, escaped from the court at around 10.45am. Two other defendants tried to escape at the same time but they were both detained. One police officer was injured during the incident and he has been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with facial injuries. Extensive searches are being carried out for McInerney and neighbouring Forces have been alerted. The public are asked not to approach McInerney but to contact Thames Valley Police urgently on 999 if they have any information on his whereabouts. Source - TVP --- Let's hope he's quickly caught!!!

Youths throw woman on rail tracks Two youths threw a woman onto railway tracks after she told them to stop smoking, a rail operator has said. The woman was taken to hospital with burns and a suspected broken collar bone after the incident at Farningham Road railway station in Kent. Southeastern rail firm said the woman spoke to the youths on the station platform, where smoking is banned. A scuffle started and she was thrown onto the tracks before fellow passengers pulled her off. Boy, 13, faces firearms charges A 13-year-old boy arrested in south London on suspicion of possessing a converted handgun and ammunition is due in court later facing firearms charges. The teenager was held as police searched a house in New Cross as part of a gang-related investigation. They found a 9mm converted Baikal firearm, two silencers for the gun and a bag of 20 cartridges. A police spokesman said the find was "deeply concerning". The boy is due at Balham Youth Court on Wednesday. He was charged after being held at Lewisham Police Station. Shooting victim taken to hospital Police cordoned off and searched the area A man who was shot in Birmingham is being treated in hospital. Officers were called to Raleigh Close, in the Handsworth area of the city, on Monday afternoon following reports of shots being fired. A cul-de-sac, which has been the scene of other shootings over the last few years, has been cordoned off while police carry out an investigation. Thirteen Government members are to receive an inflation-busting pay rise next year simply because they live in London. This is despite them voting to hold down pay rises for nurses and policemen - and urging private companies to observe pay restraint. Football clubs should pay all the costs of policing games, says the Association of Chief Police Officers. Clubs currently have to pay back only the costs incurred inside their ground or on their property, with the rest coming from police budgets. Apprentice carpenter and friend jailed for their part in assault on policeman at railway station Two young men who attacked an off duty police officer on a railway station were jailed today (Friday, August 1). But there was anger from family and friends of the pair amid claims that the policeman had acted like a bully and a thug during the incident, which was captured on CCTV. Craig Taberer, 20, and Bradley Saunders, 21, were appearing for sentence at Luton Crown Court along with 19-year-old Collette Welham. A number of police and air ambulance helicopters have been grounded while maintenance checks are carried out. A Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter is among those grounded It follows an incident involving the London Air Ambulance at Denham Airfield, in Buckinghamshire. A rotor tail fault, which can cause a sudden drop in height, is understood to be the cause of the scare.
