Asian officer relieved of duties The UK's most senior Asian police officer has been "relieved of his command", the National Black Police Association (NBPA) has said. The decision came after Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur lodged a £1.2m racial discrimination claim against the Metropolitan Police (Met). Commissioner Sir Ian Blair made the decision after meeting with Mr Ghaffur and his lawyer at Scotland Yard. NBPA said it was "disappointed" with the "unprecedented decision". The Met has said Mr Ghaffur has been put on "authorised leave". 'Necessary move' Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur lodged the claim against the Met with an employment tribun…

A policeman on routine patrol escaped for his life after confronting a man acting suspicious at the rear of Churchtown Health Centre at approximately 1:00am this morning (Tuesday 9th September 2008). The policeman saw a man acting suspicious behind a skip at the rear of the health centre. That man was joined by two other men carrying axes. It’s alleged they confronted the officer who then took cover in his car and called for back up. The men smashed the windows and panel work of the police car before making off in a silver coloured 4x4 Nissan. The vehicle was later found abandoned in an alleyway off Larkfield Lane, Churchtown. The men escaped via a dividing fence in…

Is the country headed for a return to the dark ages? Rising fuel bills, petrol, food, general cost of living means most public sector workers are suffering the credit crunch more than others. At least the prison officers, teachers, nurses etc may get their voices heard!! What of our latest pay dispute? Link to the story is HERE (BBC)

Story Here. Good. The way he's conducted himself is disgusting. He's supposed to be an officer that sets an example to other officers. Whatever happens won't directly affect me, but I hope that this temporary relieving of duties becomes a permanent thing. He's clearly not fit to be in such a high up job if he's incapable of accepting that he's not being promoted because there are other candidates that are better than him!

Members of the public dialled 999 after fearing for their lives outside an office block in Southend, Essex. They reported seeing two men, both carrying guns and dressed in dark clothing, entering the headquarters of Converso Contact Centres. Armed police surrounded the building, only to find the men had been taking part in a morale building exercise. A spokeswoman for Essex Police said the call centre firm had been "offered suitable words of advice" after Friday's incident. Detective Chief Inspector Tim Raymond added: "The two men involved clearly did not think about the implications of their actions. This was potentially a very dangerous situation and, as such, arm…

Criminals beware … texting may lead the police to your door Published Date: 08 September 2008 By Richard Sadler Scotsman A BRANCH of forensic science which analyses the electronic trail of evidence left by text messages and e-mails is increasingly being used by police to trap criminals. British scientists are pioneering the use of forensic linguistics – the systematic analysis and comparison of patterns of written speech – to identify the authors of electronic messages and written documents. The technique helped secure the conviction of the murderers of Essex schoolgirl Danielle Jones, 15, and Jenny Nicholl, 20, from North Yorkshire, and of al-Qaeda plotter Dh…

Policemen sacked for youth attack Two policemen have been sacked and a third told to resign after they assaulted a teenager and then tried to cover it up, the police watchdog said. The IPCC said two constables from Northamptonshire Police, aged 42 and 43, were found guilty of seven charges by a disciplinary hearing on Friday. The third officer, aged 50, was required to resign after pleading guilty to three charges. IPCC Commissioner Amerdeep Somal branded the officers a "disgrace". The 16-year-old youth was arrested in Daventry, Northamptonshire, in November 2006, after running from a car which was initially believed to be stolen. Disciplinary hearing The h…

New uniform for pregnant officers Maternity uniforms are to be made available to pregnant officers and staff in the Cumbria force. In the past expectant mothers were offered only larger sizes of the standard uniform, so many instead opted to wear their own clothes for work. The new clothes, described as stylish, comfortable and practical and presenting a corporate image, can be chosen from an approved list. Almost a third of Cumbria Police officers are women. The move, which is approved by the Police Federation, and Unison, follows many months of research carried out by Gill Atkinson, west area constables' federation representative. Pc Atkinson said: "I belie…

Police 'ticket culture' criticism North Wales Police have been accused by the force's officers' trade union of spending more time chasing penalty tickets than solving crimes. A North Wales Police Federation survey found many disillusioned, believing the job was more about issuing tickets than dealing with victims of crime properly. But assistant chief constable Ian Shannon said fewer tickets had been issued over the last year and a half. The force expected a great deal from staff and was among the best, he said. Some 1,500 questionnaires were sent out to the constables, sergeants, inspectors and chief inspectors it represents in the spring and just over 500 res…

Well all I can say is I agree with that! It's about time the public took more ownership on this issue, IMO.

From Police Oracle Sir Ian Blair is to be sent a formal letter this week informing him he must go at the end of his tenure, it is reported... Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair will be told this week his contract will not be renewed, it was reported last night. An official letter was said to be being sent to the Commissioner informing him he must go at the end of his tenure. Sir Ian had already said he would leave in February 2010 after the Met was convicted of health and safety law breaches over the shooting of innocent Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, in 2005. But he is now expected to face fresh demands to go when the inquest into de Menezes’ death takes pla…
